I love seeing new fur babies at visits! ✨🐶 But remember, as a certified child care provider DCF rule 202.2(m)1 requires pets to be tolerant of children and be vaccinated against rabies with proof of current documentation.

Remember to send the rabies certification to me, your local certifier, before the pup is introduced to the children in care.

🌞Daylight savings hit and the little ones in our lives may be feeling the effects - us too! 😴

National Napping Day is celebrated the Monday after Daylight Savings Time to promote health benefits of sleep and help people recover from losing an hour. A 10-20 minute nap improves alertness, mood and productivity!

Child Care Certification ensures proper rest for all children under standards 202.08(11)(a-d). Most notably the significance for safe sleep with children under the age of one to reduce SIDS. For all ages, it highlights the importance of undisturbed rest in a clean, safe and comfortable space.

How do your little ones settle down for a nap best?
👍 - lays to rest on their own
♥️ - singing a favorite song
😆 - reading a story... or three
Comment what works for your kiddos!

🥛 It's National "Don't Cry Over Spilled Milk" Day! 🥛

In Child care, spills happen. Cups tip. Paint drips. Emotions spill too.
What matters most isn't the mess-it's how we respond.
In DCF 202 Child Care Certification Standards, the Provider Interaction Standards remind us that every moment (even spilled milk!) is a chance to:
✔️ Stay calm and supportive
✔️ Help children feel safe and understood
✔️ Teach problem-solving and self-help skills
✔️ Use positive guidance instead of punishment

When a provider says:
💬 "It's okay, let's clean it up together."
💬 "Accidents happen."
💬 "What do we do next?"

They're not just cleaning up - they're teaching resilience, confidence and care. 💛

So today, let's not cry over spilled milk - let's model patience, kindness and teamwork instead!

Thank you to our amazing Wood County providers who turn everyday moments into learning opportunities. 👏

Wisconsin's child care health rules can be extensive to read - but they're super important for keeping kids safe and providers compliant. Let's make sense of them together👇
(1) Health Exams
- Under 2 years: Exam within 6 months before or 3 months after enrollment -then every 6 months.
- 2 years & older: Exam within 2 years before or 3 months after - then every 2 years.
- Must be signed by a doctor, PA, or health check provider.
- Not required for kids 5+ or those exempt for religious/spiritual reasons.

(2) Immunization Records
- Must keep records for EVERY child in care - usually on the Wisconsin Immunization Record form or a printout from their doctor.
- Records show the child is up to date on vaccines required by WI law (Statute 252.04).
- Personal or religious exemptions must be documented via the exemption form and kept on file.
- All immunization records must be current and available for review by your certifying agency or public health officials.

(3) Medications
- Store all medicine (in it's original container) out of children's reach.
- Each container must be labeled with the child's name and dosage instructions.
-Need written guardian permission to administer meds - instructions must match the label.

(4) Handwashing Rules
- Providers must wash hands:
* After diapering, toileting, or helping a child use the bathroom.
* Before preparing or serving food.
* After handling pets or cleaning.
- Child must wash hands:
* Before eating.
* After toileting or touching pets/animals.
There is no sharing of cups, utensils, washcloths, or towels (during care hours).

(5) Diapering & Clothing
- Change wet or dirty diapers/clothes right away.
- Use a washable surface for diaper changes.
- Clean with soap, water, and a disinfectant after each use.

(6) Minor Injuries
- Clean cuts and scrapes with soap water only, then cover with a bandage.

(7) Illness & communicable Diseases
- If a child is diagnosed with a reportable communicable disease, you must:
* Notify local public health and all parents within 48 hours.
- Keep the child home until:
* A doctor says they're no longer contagious, or
* The longest incubation period has passed
* Check out this chart for more information:https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/publications/p4/p44397.pdf

All in all, these health standards are all about keeping your child care environment safe, sanitary and compliant - protecting every child's health (including your own).

Hello! It’s been a while since I was active here, and I aim to grow this account. But first, here’s a bit about me:
- I have over 10 years of experience working with children through a student assistance program and a degree in Elementary Education.
- I'm a mom, so I understand the importance of quality childcare.
- I hold various roles at Wood County, including Project Lifesaver, Empowering Parents courses, Parent Cafes, and the Community Elves Program.
Fun facts:
- I come from a long line of florists; for over 100 years, my family owned and operated a local floral shop in Wisconsin Rapids.
- I enjoy exploring new places and taking the scenic route.
