🚨 Dispatch Tip of the Week🚨

Lately we've received numerous calls about phone scams happening in our area. Here are some tips to help you avoid being scammed.

▪️ If you have a warrant the Sheriff’s Department will NEVER call you. Instead, they will show up at your door with handcuffs and provide you with a free ride to the county managed bed and breakfast. They also will NEVER ask you for gift cards to pay your bond.
▪️ Social Security will NEVER call you, demand money from you, suspend your social security number, or threaten you.
▪️ DOT will NEVER text you.
▪️ Anyone asking for gift cards is probably a scam.
▪️ If you feel the call is suspicious, it’s best practice to never verify any personal information over the phone or give out bank account numbers.
If you find you have fallen for a scam please call our non-emergent number (715) 421-8700. See less

The Wood County Communication Center has confirmed that the issue affecting radio signaling to the Marshfield storm sirens has been corrected.

The sirens were briefly tested at noon today, and we confirmed they are operating properly in multiple locations throughout the city.

Even with this fix, we strongly encourage everyone to have a second way to receive storm warnings, such as:

A NOAA Weather Radio
Wood County Everbridge system - https://member.everbridge.net/355009111785830/login

City of Marshfield Mobile App - https://app.govoutreach.com/.../communications/subscribe

City of Marshfield Website Alerts - https://cityofmarshfieldwi.gov/enotify/index.php

Local news outlets and weather apps
Other trusted media outlets that provide real-time severe weather alerts for your location

Severe Weather Safety Reminder
If severe weather is approaching, please seek shelter immediately.
In a basement, if available, or
In an enclosed interior room without windows, if a basement is not available

Report Siren Problems
If you notice any issues with a City storm siren, such as:
It does not sound
It is not rotating. It appears to have storm damage

Please contact the Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department or Wood County Dispatch so the issue can be addressed as quickly as possible.
