On behalf of Sheriff E. Grant Kilgore and the men and women of the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, we join our law enforcement family and the Buchanan County community in mourning the passing of former Buchanan County Sheriff C. Ray Foster.

Sheriff Foster dedicated his life to public service and left a lasting legacy through his leadership, friendship, and commitment to protecting the people of Buchanan County.

We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to Sheriff Foster’s family, friends, former colleagues, the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, and all those whose lives he touched.

Rest easy, Sheriff Foster. Your service and legacy will not be forgotten.

POUND, VA

North Fork of Pound Lake is a local popular fishing spot that was built in 1966 and covers over 150 acres including almost 14 miles of wooded shoreline, per Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources website. Despite being in a national forest, a National Forest Stamp is not required to fish the reservoir.
Saturday evening was a great time for water enthusiasts.
A family from Big Stone Gap, VA can be seen having a fun time in the first two photos while a lone angler tries his hand in another section of the lake.

WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

WHERE...Northeastern Lee County in southwestern Virginia... Central Scott County in southwestern Virginia... Southwestern Wise County in southwestern Virginia... The Southwestern City of Norton in southwestern Virginia...

WHEN...Until midnight EDT tonight.

IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1000 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Gate City, Big Stone Gap, Pennington Gap, Weber City, Appalachia, St. Charles, Duffield, Clinchport and Jasper. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

At 810 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Fishpond Lake, or 8 miles east of Whitesburg, moving southeast at 35 mph.
