Lake Wister State Park

We might have a new park supervisor. Caught this one out on the trail a few days ago.
Hit us in the comments with some fun names for this critter!

Well, well, look who’s holdin’ court at Lake Wister State Park.

That there’s a certified tree-top supervisor. Watches the trails, keeps an eye on the campers and makes sure folks are mindin’ their manners.

And before you ask — no, he doesn't need your snacks.

These little fellas are professionals at findin’ their own groceries. One of the easiest ways we can follow Leave No Trace in our state parks is by letting wildlife stay wild, which means admirin’ from a distance and skip the handouts.

Trust ol' Uncle Cedar — a squirrel that works for a living will out-forage your trail mix anyway.

So enjoy the view, snap a photo and let Wister’s smallest park ranger keep doing his thing. 🌲🐿️

UPDATE 7/14/25 - Flooding at Victor and Wards Landing has receded making the campgrounds accessible!

FLOODING: Wards/Victor Landing Road is still closed due to flooding.

ALTERNATE ROUTE: From the Park- Drive on Highway 270 towards Wister. At the stop sign take a left onto Highway 271. Drive 5 miles to the Wister Wildlife Management sign, located on left side of highway. Turn onto Pocahontas Road, driving 7 miles.
Once past Farrell Cooper Mining Hill, take another left at the Farrell Cooper Mining sign. Follow road until Victor Landing sign.
