No Injuries, Moderate Damage After an HVAC Unit Catches Fire in Attic

(Wolfeboro) – No one was injured when a HVAC unit caught fire in a residential attic.

Wolfeboro Fire-Rescue was dispatched to the incident at 1129 hours located at 114 Sewall Rd. Engine 3 and Truck 5 responded with the first arriving units on scene at 1137 hours. On arrival, the crew found an active fire in the attic of the residence. A fast, aggressive fire attack was initiated by the duty crew, and the fire was extinguished quickly. Due to the construction of the attic, venting the smoke caused extended time on scene.

Thanks to a monitored fire alarm, crews had early notification of the fire, allowing them to respond in time to prevent further damage and to control the incident. The fire did not spread beyond the immediate area of origin.

Wolfeboro Fire-Rescue was assisted at the scene by Tuftonboro Fire, Wakefield Fire and Wolfeboro Police. Alton Fire provided station coverage for the duration of the incident.

The cause of the incident appeared to be an overheated motor in the whole house HVAC unit. Wolfeboro Fire reminds everyone to install and maintain smoke detectors in their homes.

Another step…

Today Wolfeboro Fire-Rescue Department Ambulance 2 passed the required inspection by New Hampshire Fire Academy & Emergency Medical Services to be placed in service.

That means all required equipment is in place and ready to go.

There’s more paperwork to complete with our billing company before we can transport patients, but it shouldn’t be long.

A huge shout out to Fire-Rescue staff for making this happen…also to the residents and taxpayers who have placed their trust in us.

UPDATE - July 29, 2026
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has confirmed the identity of the deceased victim as Michele Flynn, 65, of Farmington. Flynn’s cause of death was determined to be smoke inhalation, and the manner of death was ruled accidental. The investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is ongoing.

NEWS RELEASE: WOMAN LOCATED DECEASED FOLLOWING HOUSE FIRE IN FARMINGTON

FARMINGTON, N.H. – New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Sean P. Toomey, Farmington Fire Chief Royal Edgerly III and Farmington Police Chief Scott Orlando announce that one person is deceased, and a joint investigation is underway after a fire at a home in Farmington.

At 11:33 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026, members of the Farmington fire and police departments responded to a 911 report of a residential fire on Leary Lane in Farmington. Upon arrival, first responders found the home actively on fire. Firefighters made efforts to locate any occupants inside the home, despite the extensive fire conditions and significant structural damage.

The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office was requested to assist with the investigation. State Fire Investigators arrived as suppression operations were concluding and worked alongside fire personnel during the scene examination. A short time later, an adult female was located deceased inside the home.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. An autopsy is scheduled for today, July 26, 2026, at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the victim’s cause and manner of death.

The Farmington fire and police departments were assisted by additional firefighters from the communities of Rochester, Middleton, Milton, Alton, Strafford, Barnstead, and Wolfeboro, as well as by other emergency response partners.

The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office is leading the investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. The investigation remains active, and no further information is available at this time.
