A Run for Mark

Family, friends and fellow boaters g*thered at Hiawatha in Smith Cove for a very special run celebrating the life of Mark Mason.

Several of Mark’s boats were captained by family and friends as the group headed for Alton Bay — and in true Mark Mason fashion, it didn’t take long for a leisurely group run to turn into a high-speed race down Lake Winnipesaukee.

We only managed to capture about four seconds of the speed run on video. We were too busy hanging on! We have a feeling that would have pleased Mark immensely.

Here’s a look at a memorable afternoon on the water honoring a man who meant so much to the antique and classic boating community.

A wonderful g*thering on the water today as friends, family and fellow boaters came together for a group run celebrating the life of Mark Mason.

Seeing so many boats g*ther in Mark’s honor was a fitting tribute to a man who meant so much to the antique and classic boating community.

Thank you to everyone who joined Bonnie and Mark’s family for this special afternoon. A beautiful way to remember Mark—together, on the water.

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of longtime New England Chapter member and friend Mark Mason.

Mark was a true legend in the antique and classic boating community. His extraordinary knowledge, craftsmanship and lifelong passion for historic wooden boats—particularly the great Gold Cup race boats—earned him the respect and admiration of enthusiasts throughout the country.

Here in New Hampshire, we were fortunate to know Mark not only for the remarkable boats he restored and built at New England Boat & Motor, but as a familiar face and valued member of our boating community. His presence, stories, knowledge and enthusiasm will be greatly missed.

Please join us Tuesday for a run in Mark’s memory.

We have been in communication with Mark’s wife, Bonnie, and the family, and they would like to invite anyone and everyone in the boating community to join them for a group boat run in Mark’s memory.

The group will g*ther at Hiawatha in Smith Cove on Tuesday, August 25, for a 3:00 PM departure, running from Hiawatha to Alton Bay and back. The route will be led by Mark and Bonnie’s Sultana.

There will be some seats available for those who would like to participate but do not have a boat. If you would like to catch a ride, please contact Steve Perkins at 860-794-1518, and we will do our best to find you a seat.

This is short notice, but we hope many of Mark’s friends throughout the boating community will be able to join Bonnie and the family on the water for this special tribute.

Our heartfelt condolences go to Bonnie, Mark’s family, friends and the many people throughout the antique boating world whose lives he touched.

Rest in peace, Mark. You will be greatly missed.

BRING YOUR BOAT TO THE WEIRS!

Our first Weirs Rendezvous is coming up Saturday, September 12, and now we need the most important part — boats!

If you’ve been looking for an excuse to get your boat out on Lake Winnipesaukee, this is it. No judging, no awards and no formal boat show schedule. Just bring your boat to the Weirs, enjoy a morning at the docks with fellow enthusiasts, and then join us for a group run on the lake.

Docks open at 9:00 AM with coffee, juice and pastries for participants. We’ll head out for the group run at 11:30, weather and lake conditions permitting.

Registration is free, but please register your boat so we know who’s coming.

Come help us make our first Weirs Rendezvous a great turnout!

YOU’VE BEEN ASKING ABOUT THE WEIRS…

Over the years, we’ve heard from many people who would love to see an NECACBS event return to the Weirs.

Our Annual Boat Show has found a great home in Wolfeboro, where we have an established and successful event. But we also thought it was time to try something new on the western side of Lake Winnipesaukee.

So, on Saturday, September 12, we’re heading to the Weirs docks for our first Weirs Rendezvous!

This won’t be a formal boat show. It will be a casual g*thering of boat owners, families and the public, followed by a group cruise on the lake.

Docks open at 9:00 AM, with coffee, juice and pastries for participants. At 11:30, we’ll head out for a group run, with the route determined by wind and lake conditions.

Come help us make our first Weirs Rendezvous a great one!

There is no fee to participate. Learn more and register:
