Lubbock County Honoring Odessa Fire Rescue Lieutenant Huerta

Today, Wolfforth Fire & EMS joined fire departments from across Lubbock County in honoring Odessa Fire Rescue Lieutenant Isai Huerta as he was escorted into Lubbock for his autopsy following his tragic line-of-duty death over the weekend.

Personnel stood along the route through Wolfforth to pay tribute to a brother firefighter who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

Please continue to keep Lieutenant Huerta’s family, the members of Odessa Fire Rescue, and all those affected by this tragic loss in your thoughts and prayers.

Wolfforth Fire & EMS is proud to announce that during the most recent City Council meeting, the Wolfforth City Council officially approved the transition to a 48/96 shift schedule, set to go into effect later this month.

This new schedule provides our personnel with 48 hours on duty followed by 96 hours off. With more consistent rest periods, our Firefighters are better positioned to perform at their highest level both mentally and physically.

The 48/96 schedule also enhances work-life balance, allowing for more time with family, improved recovery, and reduced fatigue. In turn, this leads to increased readiness, improved morale, and a stronger and more resilient department.

We are grateful to the Wolfforth City Council for their continued support and commitment to investing in the health and wellbeing of our personnel.

Wolfforth Fire & EMS responded to a structure fire yesterday evening around 9:00 PM as part of an automatic mutual aid response for the Woodrow Volunteer Fire Department.

Initial reports indicated a trailer home on fire. First arriving units advised of several mobile homes and RVs fully engulfed in flames, with propane tanks beginning to combust as the fire rapidly grew and threatened nearby structures.

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire and were able to stop the spread, keeping the damage limited to the original units involved. There were no reported injuries.

Just after 6:00 p.m., Wolfforth Fire & EMS was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the 8300 block of County Road 6935, along with West Carlisle Volunteer Fire Department.

First-arriving units reported heavy smoke conditions prior to arrival and later confirmed a working structure fire with heavy fire involvement. Fire was already venting through the roof, indicating the fire had been burning for a significant amount of time before crews arrived. These conditions raised immediate concerns regarding the structural stability of the home, particularly the roof.

An additional challenge for crews was the lack of an established water supply, as the neighborhood does not have fire hydrants. All water for suppression operations had to be delivered via tanker shuttle operations. Due to these factors, crews operated in a defensive mode, meaning no interior operations were conducted.

During suppression efforts, several additional structural collapses occurred.

There were no reported injuries.

✅ Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything flammable or combustible
✅ Place space heaters on a flat, stable surface
✅ Plug space heaters directly into wall outlets — avoid power strips or extension cords

⚠️ Road Safety ⚠️
✅ If travel is not necessary, stay off the roadways
✅ Slow down, increase following distances, and remain alert to changing road conditions
✅ Move over and slow down for emergency responders and roadway workers

⚠️ Carbon Monoxide Safety ⚠️
✅Never use generators, grills, or fuel-burning appliances inside your home or garage
✅ Make sure your home has working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
✅ If you suspect a carbon monoxide issue, contact Wolfforth Fire & EMS for assistance
✅ If you experience symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, weakness, or shortness of breath — call 911 immediately
