βοΈ Winter Weather Preparedness β What Wolfforth Residents Need to Know
As we prepare for a potential winter storm this weekend, City staff are actively reviewing response plans and readiness efforts. While weather conditions are outside our control, there are several important steps residents can take now to help protect their homes and stay safe.
π Protect Your Home & Plumbing
Freezing temperatures can cause significant plumbing damage. Please take the following precautions:
β’ Drip faucets (both hot and cold), especially on exterior walls
β’ Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate
β’ Ensure your water meter cover is securely in place
β’ Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses
β’ Wrap or insulate exposed pipes, if possible
β’ Know where your main water shut-off valve is located
These simple steps can help prevent frozen or burst pipes during prolonged cold weather.

π Travel & Road Conditions
If travel is necessary, please do so with caution.
β’ Reduce speeds and allow extra stopping distance
β’ Avoid bridges and overpasses when possible
β’ Stay off roads during icy conditions if you are able
π¨ Wolfforth-specific road operations:
β’ We have limited snow removal capability and resources, but will focus snow and ice response efforts on major thoroughfares, including:
o Donald Preston Drive
o Dowden Road
o Frontage roads along Highway 62/82 within city limits
o Areas around emergency response facilities
β’ Secondary efforts, as available, will address drifting and impassable streets
β’ Snow removal will be performed to the best of our ability as weather and other conditions allow.

β‘ Winter Storm & Power Readiness Update
Wolfforth has two electric providers, Xcel Energy and SPEC (South Plains Electric Cooperative), depending on where you live. We havenβt received any formal statements from SPEC, but hereβs a link to their website if youβre a SPEC customer: WWW.SPEC.COOP
Xcel Energy has provided the following information: they are actively preparing for the upcoming winter weather. Crews and equipment are staged across the region, with additional resources on standby if needed. Xcel Energy has completed storm preparations and is closely monitoring conditions, particularly the potential for ice accumulation that could impact power lines.
While the system is built to withstand severe weather, outages are still possible during extreme conditions. Residents are encouraged to prepare in advance by having warm clothing and blankets available and planning safe ways to stay warm if an outage occurs.
Please remember: Stay away from downed power lines and always assume they are energized
Report downed lines directly to Xcel Energy or call 911
Xcel Energy will continue monitoring conditions and will provide updates as needed throughout the weekend.
