Press Release

At 12:34 pm this afternoon, the Wood Dale Fire Protection District was dispatched to the report of a Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detector activation with no illness in the 100 block of S Wood Dale Road. E69 responded and found a large 11-story residential high-rise, with high levels of CO found in the under- building parking garage. Additional resources responded to the scene and the cause was found to be gas powered machinery running inside of the parking garage without proper ventilation. The garages internal monitoring and ventilation system activated due to the very high levels, which alerted the Wood Dale Fire Protection District.

Multiple ambulances were requested to the scene to evaluate the seven workers that were inside of the parking garage. None of the workers required transport after moving to the fresh air outside. Crews monitored all 11 stories of the building and found no readings of CO on any floor of the building, other than very low initial readings inside of the lobby. It is believed that the parking garages six fans were able to keep the CO from entering the living space of the building.

Crews remained on the scene while constantly monitoring the conditions until the entire parking garage was ventilated and the building was absent of CO.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The living spaces inside of the building were not at risk and had no readings of CO.

The Wood Dale Fire Protection District reminds it’s residents of the importance of smoke and CO detectors. We would also like to remind everyone not to run any gas-powered equipment or vehicles inside of an enclosed building.

The Wood Dale Fire Protection District would like to thank the following departments for their assistance.

Bensenville Fire Protection District
Elk Grove Village Fire Department

You’ve got to be kitten me right meow? This morning Engine 69 responded to an absolute cat-astrophy, a kitten stuck in a washing machine!

This little guy might have spent 1 of its 9 lives escaping the filling water, but the WDFPD was there to help disassemble the washer and rescue the trapped kitten!

Pet owners, please be cautious when animals are young… they can get into all sorts of dangerous situations! Curiosity almost killed this cat!
