✨The little red church in the pines that you see above is unique in many ways, and is one of the most charming we have discovered in rural Georgia.

Antioch Methodist was organized c. 1844 in Clinch County and this is likely the second or third church building on this site, constructed in the mid-1890s.

✨ Jerusalem Lutheran Church was organized in 1733, before Georgia was even a decade old, when exiles from Salzburg, Austria, arrived seeking a place to worship freely.

Their first settlement failed, but the second one thrived along the Savannah River, growing into a town of 1,200 people with Georgia's first sawmill, orphanage, and school.

Today, the oldest building from that era is this brick church with 21-inch-thick walls, original European glass, and bells that have rung since the 1760s. It's the oldest church building in Georgia, and some regard it as the oldest public building in the state.

Thank you to everyone that stopped by our event Tuesday. Special thank you to all of our speakers for sharing their memories of Dr Ann. If you missed it we will still have a selection of the Lillie Harris papers displayed until next Friday July 31st.

Please join us next Tuesday, July 21st, we will be hosting an event to honor Dr Ann Harris Stoddard who was a local teacher known for her tenacity and spirit. The Bryan-Lang knew her as a great historian who aided in the preservation of black history in Camden County. Light refreshments will be available along with numerous collections.
