What happens when you spend a whole month following our SRDs around with a camera? Well… you end up with THIS. 😂🎬

All of August, we’ve shared a little bit of life with our School Resource Deputies—from first-day pictures and favorite memories with students to what they actually do every day.

Hopefully, you’ve gotten to know them a little better along the way. Because yes, they’re deputies—but they’re also the people your kids see in the hallways, laugh with, ask questions, and apparently challenge to a game of hopscotch. 😂

So, one month into the school year, we’re wrapping up our SRD spotlight the only way we should… with the bloopers.

So…what exactly was going on at Citizens' Academy Tuesday night? 👀

A group of Camden County citizens got their first behind-the-scenes look at a side of our Sheriff and Command Staff most people never get to see—and that was only Night One!

The 2026 Camden County Sheriff’s Office Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy is officially underway. Over the next several weeks, this group will get to experience everything from K-9s and 911 Communications to patrol, investigations, the jail, and hands-on scenarios that put them right in the middle of the action.

And we’ve got a few surprises planned along the way. 😉

If you missed out this year, you might want to keep an eye on what this group gets to do. Something tells us you’ll be watching for applications next year. 👀

A spouse. A parent. A son or daughter. A friend.

Behind every badge is a person. And sometimes, the things they carry home at the end of a shift are much heavier than most of us will ever know.

September is National Su***de Prevention Month, and we want to take a moment to acknowledge the emotional and mental toll that can come with a career spent protecting and serving others.

An average person may experience three to four traumatic events in a lifetime. A law enforcement officer may experience roughly 180 over the course of a 20-year career.

Those calls don't always end when the shift does...

We want to remind those in public safety that Chaplains are a great resource available to you. If you need counseling, guidance, someone to talk to, or simply an ear to listen, we encourage you to reach out. Asking for help is not a sign that you can't do the job—it is taking care of the person who does it.

While our Chaplains are primarily here to support our staff, we also want our community to know that you don't have to struggle alone. If you or someone you know needs help finding mental health resources, you can contact the Camden County Sheriff's Office at (912) 510-5100, and we will help connect you with the appropriate resources.

Some battles aren't visible. Some are carried quietly and for a very long time.

We were honored and grateful to receive letters from a community member complimenting Corrections Officers Hardy and Waller, who are part of our Corrections Division. The writer expressed her deep appreciation for the compassion and professionalism both officers showed during her time in our facility.

She thanked Officer Waller for her kindness, writing that she “showed me respect, care, and treated me like a person.” She also shared that Officer Waller “made me comfortable enough to ask what were probably stupid questions, took the time to answer anything I asked, and explained everything so it was less terrifying.”

She also recognized Officer Hardy for being “kind and considerate” and for taking the time to ask how she was doing.

Working in corrections comes with the responsibility of maintaining safety and security while also treating every person with dignity and respect. We’re proud of Officers Hardy and Waller for demonstrating kindness during what can be some of the most difficult moments in a person’s life.

We were honored to host the 35th annual Hands Across the Border Ceremony last Thursday!

This multi-state initiative began as a friendly competition between Georgia State Patrol and Florida Highway Patrol back in 1991 to see which agency could better reduce alcohol-related traffic deaths leading up to Labor Day. Now, it's become a highly-coordinated safety operation between law enforcement in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

We had a blast catching up with familiar faces, meeting new ones, and coming together to dedicate ourselves to protecting and serving our community. Thank you to all of our partners who helped put on this event, and to all of our neighboring agencies who attended.

To our drivers in Camden County and beyond, let Hands Across the Border remind you to drive safely as we approach Labor Day Weekend—secure your seatbelts and child seats properly, obey any and all posted speed limits, and don't drive while under the influence.

We'll see you next year!

Today, we remember and honor Sergeant Carlton Daniel Jenkins.

On August 28th, 2000, Sergeant Jenkins was tragically killed in the line of duty while serving Camden County. He dedicated his life to protecting others, serving with both the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and the Kingsland Police Department.

We will never forget his service, his dedication, and his ultimate sacrifice. Our thoughts remain with his family, friends, and all who knew him.

When Lt. Reed became a School Resource Deputy last year, he expected to keep students safe and positively impact them.

He wasn't expecting that impact to go both ways.

After a threat on one of our schools turned out to be fake, a young student found Lt. Reed while he was patrolling the hallways to tell him that she wasn't scared during the threat—she knew Lt. Reed would keep her safe.

He's carried that moment with him since, as a reminder that he made the right choice moving to the School Resource Division.

Our SRDs may have chosen to go into the schools to keep students safe, but moments like this one are the reason they choose to stay. As the school year continues, know that our SRDs are happy to protect our students, but they're more than happy to connect with them. ❤️

Early in the morning on August 19th, Deputy Lasko noticed a car that seemed to be speeding down I-95 South and initiated a traffic stop. When he approached the car, the driver and passenger seemed nervous, and Deputy Lasko could smell the heavy scent of ma*****na (and the air freshener they used to try and cover it up).

Sergeant Goodin, Deputy Burch, and Deputy Rivera arrived to assist with the vehicle search, and together they seized:

- 28 bags of THC lozenges
- 16 bags of THC gummies
- 17 THC vapes
- 138 ma*****na pre-rolls
- 10 bags/jars of green ma*****na bud
- 2 mason jars containing ma*****na, including ma*****na bud and loose ground ma*****na/shake
- 2 THC lotion containers

The driver of the vehicle was charged with Speeding and Possession of Ma*****na Over One Ounce, and was safety transported to the Camden County Public Safety Complex. We're proud of our deputies' thorough work in searching the vehicle, and meticulous evidence collection in this situation.

🤝 We're excited to announce that the 35th annual Hands Across the Border campaign will take place on August 27th at the Georgia Visitor Information Center at Exit 1 on I-95!

This multi-state initiative began as a friendly competition between Georgia State Patrol and Florida Highway Patrol back in 1991 to see which agency could better reduce alcohol-related traffic deaths leading up to Labor Day. Now, it's become a highly-coordinated safety operation between law enforcement in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

In the week leading up to Labor Day, law enforcement in all five states will host safety checkpoints in order to remove impaired drivers from the roadways and address other serious violations such as distracted driving, speeding, and seatbelt and child restraint violations.

Join us as we kick-off another year of this important safety measure!

🕘 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Test how safe your child's car seat really is with Child Safety Car Seat Checks, hosted by the Kingsland Police Department—make sure it's strapped in securely, and that you're abiding by the right height and weight requirements for your child.

🕚 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Stick around to watch the official Hands Across the Border Ceremony, where law enforcement from multiple states come together to address the rise of impaired driving during Labor Day Weekend, and develop plans and safety checkpoints to limit the risks.
