In New Jersey, the math for "getting by" has changed. Recent data shows a family of four now needs nearly $116,000 just to cover basics like housing and food.

This means even families who "make good money" have almost no margin for error. When a flood or fire hits, that safety net can vanish in an instant. Suddenly, our neighbors are facing the terrifying gap between stability and displacement.

🚗 The Car Ride to Somewhere New

She packs one bag, buckles the kids in, and looks in the rearview. Then: she drives. She doesn’t know exactly what’s ahead, but she knows she has to move.

There’s a holy in-between in that ride. It’s the space between what was and what will be. It’s where quiet courage lives: the kind that keeps one hand on the wheel and the other reaching back to hold a child’s hand.

The women of color we serve take that ride every day, leaving behind displacement for a future they are brave enough to build. At Family ReBuild, we meet them on the other side with open arms and a foundation for the first step home.

Our hearts are full today.

Yesterday’s 2nd Annual Day Party at Pierre's of South Brunswick was more than just a celebration; it was a testament to the power of our village. A deeply moving highlight was the original poem shared by Ananeika Gordon. This powerful, copyrighted work shared her personal journey of resilience and faith, reminding us all why this mission is so personal.

We extend a massive thank you to our incredible guests, dedicated sponsors, and hard-working board members who made "Partying for a Purpose" such a resounding success. Special gratitude to our honorary guests, Pastor Jide Lawore and Tula Richards-Gift, for your inspiring presence. She's at the PTA meeting after a double shift. She's on the community board, fighting for fair housing. She's at the polls with her grandmother's legacy in her pocket and her daughter's future on her mind.

Women of color don't just rebuild homes : they reshape the systems that broke them in the first place.

At Family ReBuild, we've watched mothers become advocates. Survivors become policy voices. Women who once needed a Village become the ones building it for others. This is the pipeline from recovery to civic leadership.

Because the most powerful thing a woman can do after displacement is not just stand up : it's stand up and say: "Now I'm making sure no other family goes through this alone."

🎒 The Backpack: A Child's Dignity in a Time of Change

When a family is displaced, the kids feel it most. New school. New faces. And often : no supplies. No backpack. Nothing that says "I belong here too."

That's why the backpack matters.

A woman of color rebuilding her life doesn't just think about rent and heat. She thinks about her child walking into a new classroom with their head held high. With a backpack that's filled. With a lunch bag. With notebooks that aren't borrowed.

At Family ReBuild, we make sure children arrive ready : not just to survive the school day, but to thrive in it. Because when a mother can hand her child a full backpack on the first day of a new school, she's not just sending them to class. She's sending a message: *We're going to be okay. Mommy's got us.*
