Beginning this summer, reservations will be required at our park on weekends and holidays.

Summer crowds can fill the park to capacity, causing long waits and visitors being turned away. The new day-use reservation system helps reduce overcrowding, ease traffic and protect the park’s natural resources — all while ensuring you can plan ahead and guarantee entry when you arrive.

Congratulations to Jennifer Tomich and Nikunj Bhatt who completed their Master Hiker designation at Leesylvania State Park and their Master Paddler designation at Belle Isle State Park!

Nikunj Bhatt and Jennifer Tomich started their journey at First Landing State Park. When asked about their favorite park they responded with, “We loved all the state parks and each one had their own unique incredible discoveries and moments to cherish! We’ve learned so much about Virginia’s history, culture, and environment. Our favorite part of Virginia is the state park system and we can now say that with confidence!”

Some of their favorite experiences while hiking and paddling in Virginia State Parks were kayaking with dolphins at Machicomoco State Park, seeing nesting pelicans on the concrete ships at Kiptopeke State Park, and observing hunting ospreys and eagles at numerous other parks. They enjoyed camping, taking part in dark‑sky programs, and joining a ranger‑led night hike where they discovered owls, bats, and fluorescent bugs and beetles.

They got cozy with the wild horses at Grayson Highlands State Park and attended the Paw Paw Festival event at Powhatan State Park, where they tried Paw Paw ice cream and Paw Paw hot sauce for the first time. They loved cycling at High Bridge Trail State Park and New River Trail State Park, as well as the countless educational ranger‑led programs offered to them along the way. We are so excited to celebrate this wonderful accomplishment with them!

Thank you for sharing your journey and for being part of the Trail Quest and Virginia State Park family!
