Cub Scout Pack 196

We are a Cub Scout Pack out of Woodbury, MN. Our Pack Meetings are held at Valley Crossing Community School where most of our pack members go to school.

However we welcome our members from other schools as well! We have a typical roster of 35-50 scouts and 6-7 Dens for Kindergarteners - 5th Graders. Our pack is busy with many big events throughout the year: Kicking off the school year with a Blast Off to Scouting Rocket event in September, a community service project in December, Pinewood Derby in January, and our Blue and Gold Banquet in March. New members are welcome to join at any time.

We went fishing on one of the beautiful lakes in Woodbury last week! Special thanks to the DNR for coming out to talk to us about fish, fishing techniques, helping practice casting and helping the kiddos fish off the dock!

We caught a bunch of mostly little guys. Except that one that got away...

We went on another amazing hike last week! Cottage Grove Ravine Park came highly recommended by one of our scouts, and he agreed to be our tour guide as well!

The goal this week was to count and identity the different types of insects we saw. We got up to an astounding 28 insects! Butterflies, moths, ants, bees, beetles, grasshoppers, cicadas, centipedes, and so much more!!

Another fun hike! This week we explored the pond behind City Hall in Woodbury and spent a bit of time at Vetran's Memorial talking about the service branches and heros honored there.

Our next Summer Hike was at Tamarack Nature Preserve! The boardwalks are beautiful 🌳

Our goal this time was to count the bird calls and there were SO MANY we lost count! Easily over 100 calls from so many different species 🎵🐦🐦‍⬛

We took our second hike of the summer today! Enjoyed the weather and the sights on a perfect morning!

Our challenge was to observe the world around us and count the number of animals, insects, or signs of animals or insects we saw. We got to a whopping 47! Everything from ants and birds to nests, butterflies, clams, and one amazing caterpillar 🦋

Our first Summer Hike was a success! We walked around Colby Lake Park and the scouts were challenged to observe and identify as many species of trees as possible!

Together, we identified 12 different species with 2 mystery trees! We were so focused on the trees, we forgot to take a group picture but here is the leaf and pinecone haul of one of our scouts!

⚜️The Cub Scouts of Pack 196 had our graduation and cross over ceremony last night for our Cubs! So proud of how hard these kiddos have worked this year to earn their ranks! Congratulations and great job to all our awesome Scouts!

Our Cub Scouts had a fun and impactful visit to Carpenter St. Croix Valley Nature Center a few days ago! The scouts and siblings went on a long hike and planted TWENTY TREES!!! We got to meet an awesome turtle after the hike back, too.
