Gloucester County has lost an icon.
It’s difficult to think of public life in South Jersey without Jacquelyn Love. For many of us, she has always been there, bringing people together to do good things in the community.
Smart, intuitive, charming, funny, hard-working, and authentic – Jackie was an extraordinarily gifted person. Her ability to immediately form a meaningful connection with seemingly anyone and everyone was truly something special.
When Jackie asked you about how your family was doing, she wasn’t just making conversation – she genuinely cared. She loved people, and she loved making a positive difference in people’s lives.
Service to others is what defined so much of Jackie’s life. She was a 20-year Councilwoman and Deptford’s very first Black Deputy Mayor. She led Gloucester County’s disabilities services for more than two decades. And she was active in countless community- and faith-based organizations and efforts.
Jackie’s impact on and is immeasurable and will continue to be felt for many years to come – from the Jackie Love Community Park in Jericho to the Mount Zion Wesley United Methodist Church to the Gloucester County Democratic Committee Headquarters and far beyond – Jackie’s spirit will live on.
Our heartfelt condolences are with Jackie’s beloved family – including her son, Deptford Councilman Wayne Love, and her daughter Wanda – as well as her church family and her many, many, many friends.
Visitation with Jackie Love’s family will take place on Friday, June 12th from 8:00am to 10:00am at the Gloucester County Community Church (359 Chapel Heights Road, Sewell, NJ 08080) with services to follow after.
