🌅 Featured Auction Item: “First Light” by Ken Elias
This luminous acrylic on canvas (36" × 49", framed) captures the quiet moment when night gives way to day — when the world is still in shadow, but the sky begins to glow.

Artist Ken Elias, originally from Utica, built an international career in interior design before returning to his first love: painting. His work explores abstract form, color, and the emotional impact of light. Now dividing his time between Palm Beach and Middlebury, CT, Ken paints daily, investigating how color transforms space and feeling.

“First Light,” painted in 2025, is a radiant reflection of that devotion — a study in awakening and warmth.

Can you believe summer camp has come to a close? What a season it has been at Flanders — full of adventures, hikes, nature connection, and fun at every turn! Campers cooked up new recipes in our cooking camp, cared for farm animals at the North Barn, dove into special topics through our academic academy programs, created art in a variety of mediums at the studio, and so much more! 🌿 Spotlight of the Week: Camp Counselor Evan Bunovsky

Evan’s Flanders story started in childhood, when a birthday party at the Sugar House sparked his love for nature. He joined our team as a CIT in 2018 and has grown into a dedicated lead summer camp counselor.

He’s currently studying Environmental Sciences & Environmental Management at CT State Community College in Naugatuck, with the goal of working at Flanders year‑round.

A fun highlight: Evan will be heading to Montana’s Hell Creek Formation in Spring 2027 for a real paleontology dig — no wonder Paleontology Week at the Sugar House was his favorite session this summer.

Evan loves teaching kids new nature facts, exploring the trails, and helping campers build a deeper respect for the environment. He often shares a favorite David Attenborough reminder about understanding and protecting nature.

His favorite spot at Flanders? The river system, where curiosity and discovery flow all summer long.
