U.S. Senator Cory Booker and Commissioner Matt Weng recently visited Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill for a productive and educational look at health care and transportation services in Gloucester County.

During the visit, Senator Booker and Commissioner Weng joined health care leaders for a discussion on challenges facing the medical field, including the impact of funding cuts to programs such as Medicaid and Medicare.

They also toured Inspira’s new maternal health wing, featuring the latest in-patient care and resources to support mothers, babies, and families throughout the community.

The visit concluded with a tour of an SJ Connect bus, courtesy of the South Jersey Transportation Authority. The new, free transportation service helps residents access employment, medical appointments, shopping, school, and other essential destinations.

Thank you to the teams at Inspira and the South Jersey Transportation Authority for sharing their insight and services, and to Senator Booker for visiting Gloucester County!

🖤 THE BLACK POSTER PROJECT COMES TO SOUTH JERSEY

On Sunday, August 30, Deputy Director Jim Jefferson delivered the Invocation and spoke at The Black Poster Project at Williamstown High School, alongside Assemblyman Cody Miller, Mayor Greg Wolfe, and community members dedicated to raising awareness about substance use and its devastating impact.

The Black Poster Project honors lives lost to all forms of substance use while transforming grief into awareness, prevention, and hope. More than 900 individual memorial posters—each sharing the face and story of a loved one—filled the exhibit.

This powerful event marked the first time The Black Poster Project was brought to South Jersey, providing a moving space to remember those lost, support the families and friends who carry their memory, and encourage continued education and prevention efforts throughout our communities.

Commissioner Gattinelli Welcomes New Intern-Scholars as Program Celebrates 10 Years

On August 25, 2026, Gloucester County Commissioner Joann Gattinelli welcomed the newest first-year students participating in the Gloucester County Intern Scholarship Program (ISP), as the program kicks off its 10th year of providing students with valuable opportunities for professional growth and career development.

Sponsored by the Gloucester County Board of Commissioners, the program partners with Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ) to connect students’ academic experiences with real-world professional opportunities.

The kickoff workshop was facilitated by the Gloucester County Department of Economic Development. Students were introduced to the program and the importance of developing professional skills, exploring career interests, and building connections that can help prepare them for future careers.

For 10 years, the Intern Scholarship Program has reflected Gloucester County’s commitment to investing in its students and strengthening the connection between education and the local workforce. This year’s Intern-Scholars now join a growing legacy of students who have benefited from these opportunities and the County’s continued investment in their futures.

Commissioner Joann Gattinelli and representatives from Jefferson Hospital Washington Township placed 38 flags in recognition of International Overdose Awareness month. Each flag represents a Gloucester County resident lost to drug use in Gloucester County. The flags serve as a solemn reminder of those we have lost while also acknowledging the grief carried by their families, friends, and loved ones. The Gloucester County Board of Commissioners and the Division of Human & Disability Services recognize International Overdose Awareness Day by hosting the Candlelight Memorial Vigil. This solemn event is held to remember loved ones lost to the disease of addiction. The vigil also offers a comforting, stigma-free environment for families and friends to grieve and remember their loved one.

This year the vigil will be held on Monday, August 31, with a rain date of Sept. 1. The event takes place in Atkinson Park, 138 Bethel Mill Rd, Sewell, NJ 08080. Resources will be available beginning at 7pm, with the vigil program beginning at dusk. For more information, please call 856-384-6929 or email [email protected]

FROM THE SHELTER TO HIS FOREVER HOME 🐾❤️

There’s nothing better than hearing how one of our Gloucester County Animal Shelter adoptions turned into the perfect match!

Gilbert found his forever home with Diana, and from the sound of it, he has
completely stolen her heart.

“He is so funny and loving. He follows me everywhere around the house. He loves to sit on my lap in the rocker outside in the morning and sleeps on the pillow next to my head as if his job is to protect me. He loves hugs and kisses all the time — he even puts his cheek to your face to make sure he gets his allotted kisses.”

Diana says Gilbert came into her life at just the right time and has been helping her through a difficult period.

“God definitely sent him to me. I love him so much. He thinks I gave birth to him. What a love fest! He is very loved.”

Diana also shared a special thank you to Phyllis for introducing her to Gilbert, saying it was love at first sight. ❤️

These are the happy endings we love to see from the Gloucester County Animal Shelter! 🐶🏡
