Burn permit season to start early in Tn due to dry conditions!

UPDATE
***Burn Permit Season to Start Early in Tennessee***

The summer heat and dry weather just won’t quit. With the current conditions in mind, the Division of Forestry will launch the burn permit system a few weeks early.

A permit will be required for outdoor burning starting Monday, Sept. 23.

Typically, burn permits are required statewide Oct. 15-May 15. Many cities and municipalities require permits year round.

Although Tennessee has not seen an increase in wildland fires, safety is our top priority. The early launch is a precautionary measure to help protect our state and citizens from any wildfire threat. The Division of Forestry will continue to monitor the weather situation and will not issue permits on days when burning carries a greater risk.

For more information, tips to conduct a safe debris burn, and to apply for a FREE burn permit online, check out www.BurnSafeTN.org.

At approx. 3:00pm today the Eastside, Woodbury, and Mooretown Fire Departments were dispatched to Hill Creek Rd for a clothes dryer on fire inside the house. Engine 7301 arrived on scene to find light smoke coming from inside residence. After brief investigation it was determined the fire was contained behind the dryer. Eastside, Woodbury, and Mooretown firefighters were able to quickly extinguish all hotspots and ventilate the residence of the smoke. It was great teamwork by our city and county Fire Departments and minimal damage to the residence was successful. There were no reported injuries by any of the occupants at the residence!

This past Thursday the Eastside Fire Dept. Along with the Cannon County EMA responded to a overturned grain truck on Pleasant View Rd. Initial scene size up determined leaks from the oil and hydraulic tanks. Hazmat Technicians with EMA quickly mitigated the spill with no enviroment or water systems affected. The truck driver was uninjured and was able to salvage his payload with the help of other local farmers.

Our condolences go out to the family, friends, and fellow firefighters of retired Auburntown Fire Chief Frank Patrick.
