Wednesday at Daily Church (Dix/King)

Residents and motorists in the area may notice an increased police presence and additional police vehicles during the training. There is no emergency and no cause for concern.

Training exercises like this help our officers remain prepared and ready to serve our community.

💙 911 READY BAGS FOR WOODHAVEN FIRST RESPONDERS 💙

The Woodhaven Police and Fire Departments would like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to Mimi’s Mission and Ford Philanthropy for their generous donation of 50 911 Ready Bags to our first responders!

🚓 25 bags were donated to the Woodhaven Police Department
🚒 25 bags were donated to the Woodhaven Fire Department

Deputy Police Chief Adam Ruffner, Sgt. Ron Wise, and Officer Eddie Cach, along with Fire Chief Brad Myles and Deputy Fire Chief Chris Davenport, were on hand to accept the 911 Ready Bags on behalf of the Woodhaven Police and Fire Departments.

The 911 Ready Bags are specially designed to provide first responders with sensory and comfort tools when interacting with individuals with autism, particularly during stressful or overwhelming situations. Having these resources readily available can help reduce anxiety, improve communication, build trust, and create a safer and more positive interaction for everyone involved.

We are extremely grateful to Mimi's Mission Lisa Villela) for her/their dedication to the autism community and to Ford Philanthropy and its volunteers, who recently helped assemble these bags for first responders.

These bags will be placed directly into the hands of Woodhaven Police and Fire personnel, providing another valuable resource to help us better serve individuals with autism and their families.

💙 Happy National Daughters Day! 💙

Today, we celebrate the daughters who bring pride, joy, laughter. and occasionally a few extra gray hairs into our lives. 😂

Many members of the Woodhaven Police Department are proud parents of daughters, and we know there’s no training academy that fully prepares you for raising one. From tea parties and school dances to first dates and learning that “because I said so” apparently isn’t sufficient probable cause, they definitely keep us on our toes.

But through every stage, watching our daughters grow into strong, confident and independent women is one of life’s greatest privileges.

To all the daughters in our Woodhaven community and especially the daughters of our officers, dispatchers, staff, and first responders thanks for keeping life interesting and reminding us who’s really in charge.

Dog Bite Information

Animal Control has seen an increase in unvaccinated dog bites. Dog owners need to be aware of the consequences of what will happen if your dog bites a person.

Pet owners need to be aware that rabies is in Michigan. Michigan has 50 confirmed cases of rabies this year. Rabies is fatal and all animal bites must be taken seriously.

Dogs are required to have a current rabies vaccine by a licensed veterinarian. All dogs also must be licensed in the City or County you live in each year. Dog licenses are met to help Cities and Counties keep track of rabies vaccines. IT’S A LAW!

A dog bite is when the dog breaks a person’s skin with its teeth. If the skin is not broken, then it is a dog attack. Once a dog bite happens, there are a couple options that will happen.

First, If the dog is current on rabies vaccines, the dog could do its 10-day Quarantine at home. Animal Control must have proof of rabies vaccines. Animal Control will provide the owner with a Home Quarantine Agreement Form that must be filled out.

After 10 days, the dog owner will need to have a health check with their veterinarian, at which time the veterinarian may give a rabies booster to the dog. A dog license is still required. This is the ideal option for the dog and its owner.

Second, the dog does not have a current rabies vaccine. Now the dog MUST be quarantined at the Animal Shelter for 10 days. The Animal Shelter does have daily lodging fee that must be paid after 10 days. After the 10 days, the dog must immediately be seen by a veterinarian for its rabies vaccines, and a dog license must be obtained. This is not the ideal option and could have been avoided if the dog was rabies vaccinated prior to the bite.

Third, the dog owner has the dog euthanized and sent to the State of Michigan lab for rabies testing.

Keep in mind that along with the quarantine, any violations could result in citations, some being misdemeanors. Also, as a dog owner, you would be held responsible for all damages your dog may cause.

We all love our dogs, but keep in mind the victims, the rabies treatment and the trauma they also will go through. No one wants to go through all of this.

Let’s keep our community safe! Be a responsible dog owner, get your dog’s rabies vaccines and dog license.

👮 NATIONAL POLICE WOMAN DAY 👮‍♀️

Today, September 12, we recognize National Police Woman Day, a day dedicated to honoring the courage, leadership, professionalism, and contributions of women serving in law enforcement across our country.

The Woodhaven Police Department is proud to have four outstanding female officers representing our department and serving our community. 💙

This year’s recognition is especially timely, as we welcomed our fourth female officer just this week, joining the Woodhaven Police Department as a lateral transfer from another law enforcement agency. We are excited to have her experience and dedication become part of our team!

Women have played an important role in the history and continued evolution of law enforcement, serving in every capacity and taking on the same challenges, responsibilities, and commitment to public service as their fellow officers.

Today, we recognize our four officers and all of the women who have chosen to wear the badge and dedicate themselves to protecting and serving their communities.

Please join us in thanking the women of the Woodhaven Police Department for their service, commitment, and dedication to our community.
