This past weekend, we were proud to support the Southern California Special Olympics and spend time with some truly inspiring athletes.

It was a great day of inclusion, teamwork, and community, and we’re honored to have been a part of it. Thank you to all the athletes, coaches, volunteers, families, and friends who made the event such a great success!

CHP West Valley was proud to join LAPD Topanga yesterday for the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics Southern California.

Together, members of our departments carried the Flame of Hope to raise awareness and support for the incredible athletes of the Special Olympics. The journey continues with the Summer Games taking place this weekend at Cal State Long Beach.

We are honored to stand alongside these athletes as they demonstrate determination, courage, and the true spirit of competition.

During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we recognize the calm voices behind the chaos.

CHP Public Safety Operators and Dispatchers are the first to respond, answering the call in moments of crisis, gathering critical information, and ensuring help gets where it’s needed.

Their work is often unseen, but never unfelt. Every call answered is a life touched, a situation stabilized, and a community made safer.

Thank you to the dedicated professionals who serve with compassion, precision, and unwavering commitment, day and night! 💙

The California Highway Patrol joins the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office in mourning the loss of Deputy Randy Hoppert.

A United States Navy veteran, Deputy Hoppert chose a life of service and continued that commitment in law enforcement, carrying forward a family legacy. He served the people of Tulare County with dedication and purpose, and he will be missed by those who knew him and worked alongside him.

All of us at the CHP are keeping his family, his partners, and his department in our thoughts.

Speed matters. Drive and ride as if your life depends on it.

Recently, officers from CHP West Valley responded to a solo motorcycle crash on Stunt Rd, north of Schueren Rd in the Santa Monica Mountains. The rider was traveling at an excessive speed while trying to negotiate a curve in the roadway and the rider ultimately went down, striking a guardrail.

The rider suffered major injuries and needed to be airlifted to the hospital.

Canyon roads are unforgiving. Sharp turns, elevation changes, and limited protective barriers leave little room for error. Speed and aggressive riding dramatically increase the risk of serious injury or worse.

We seek to prevent crashes just like this and through the Traffic Alliance Safety Corridors Campaign, CHP is collaborating with the California Office of Traffic Safety to reduce roadway deaths and injuries through public awareness, education, and increased enforcement.

Funding for this campaign was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
