Mountain Communities Volunteer Fire Department

Mountain Communities Volunteer Fire Department We are very proud to serve the communities of Westcreek, Trout Creek, Turkey Rock, Lost Valley and Lutheran Valley Ranch, as well as Pike National Forest.

Mountain Communities Volunteer Fire Department is proud to provide 911 emergency fire and medical response to the areas of Teller and Douglas Counties of Colorado. We cover northwest Teller County and southwest Douglas County in the beautiful state of Colorado. Mountain Communities provides Fire and EMS 911 response over a 99 square mile fire/rescue district, situated along Highway 67 between Deck

ers to the north and Woodland Park to the south. The east and west borders are within Rainbow Falls to the east and the south fork of the South Platte river above Cheeseman Reservoir to the west. We average 120 calls a year and EMS usually accounts for about 80% of these calls. We service an additional 100 square miles of “no mans” land within Pike National Forest, all the way east to Rampart Range Road. We are active participants in the Teller County Task Force, when large incidents require many departments to team together. Our terrain is between 7500 and 10000 altitude, leading to many tough, mountainous rescues. Our small team of volunteer Firefighters, EMTs, and EMRs dedicate their time and energy towards this demanding work. We have a capable selection of vehicles and equipment spread between 3 stations within the district.

From recent rescues to helicopter operations and safety training, we're grateful for our partners at Flight For Life Colorado. Beyond providing critical emergency medical services, Flight for Life also supports search and rescue missions, helps locate wildfires, and transports personnel to remote, hard-to-reach locations. During training last month, MCVFD officers earned flight authorization (lift tickets) to fly as passengers during backcountry emergency responses when needed. Thank you to Flight for Life for being our eyes in the sky and for always answering the call!

🔥EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: Due to increased fire danger, Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are now in place across unincorporated Douglas County, including the City of Castle Pines and the Town of Larkspur, until further notice.

We understand America's 250th birthday is a special occasion to celebrate with loved ones in a major way, but with the current extremely severe fire danger we face, the safety and lives of our community is top of mind right now. Our experts considered the risks: the lack of moisture we have, wind possibilities, and lack of state resources available as firefighters courageously work to suppress a number of fires in our state this week, when making the ultimate decision to implement stage one fire restrictions. We ask you celebrate Independence Day safely with your loved ones this weekend, keeping in mind the following:

🚫 What’s Prohibited:
-Open burning of any kind
-Use of personal fireworks 🧨
-Use of model rockets

Let’s all do our part to keep Douglas County safe!

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service is devastated to share that three wildland firefighters lost their lives on Saturday, June 27, as part of an interagency response to the Knowles and Gore fires along the Colorado-Utah border. Additionally, two crew members were injured in the line of duty and have been transported to a hospital.

Our immediate focus is on supporting their families, friends, and fellow crewmates during this incredibly difficult time.

The U.S. Wildland Fire Service stands united with the USDA Forest Service in grief and in our unwavering support for the loved ones left behind. Their bravery, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Additional details will be shared as they are able to be released.

Dry, windy and hot weather will spread across southern CO over the weekend, bringing a return of critical fire weather conditions. Red Flag Warnings are in effect for the mountains and interior valleys for Today, with a fire weather watch for the same area on Sunday. Along the I-25 corridor and across the southeast plains, no watches and warnings are in effect, but spotty areas of high fire danger are likely, especially in locations which haven't received much rainfall this past week. Take care to avoid fire starts.

The new emergency satellite call box at our Westcreek station provides a direct connection to emergency services in an area where cell service is often unreliable. Whether it’s a motor vehicle accident, medical emergency, wildfire, or another critical incident, help is just a button press away.

The system is regularly monitored and maintained to ensure it's ready for use when it matters most. Signage along Highway 67 alerts motorists to the call box location should they need to report an emergency or request assistance.

A special thank you to the Douglas County Emergency Communication Authority, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, and Stream Speed Technologies, LLC for bringing this valuable resource to our community to help keep residents and visitors safe.

Fire Danger will be high in and near the mountains today. Use extra caution to avoid fire starts as gusty winds and dry conditions will result in rapid fire spread. Critical Fire Weather conditions will return across the central and southwest mountains on Thursday while the plains experiences a cool down.
