We were waiting for every single vote to be counted before updating this page with the final numbers from the recall. The office of elections has said they will certify the election on March 22nd which is when we planned to post about the success of the recall. However it seems that earlier this week Trustee MacDonald resigned from her seat as a WJUSD trustee in area 2. The results at every update since Election Day have been 60% or more as YES votes. Below are the vote counts as of Friday at 4pm and that still holds true.

DCD strongly endorses Yes on the Recall for Woodland Joint Unified School District (Trustee Area 2). 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

WJUSD Trustee Emily MacDonald has made hostile and offensive comments targeted towards transgender youth and her statements undermine the school board’s commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all students. Families and students of Trustee Area 2 deserve to hold MacDonald accountable for her divisive rhetoric.

Vote YES on Recall MacDonald WJUSD Trustee Area 2 and support Woodland’s LGBTQIA+ students!

Today we filled 1,349 signatures of voters from WJUSD Trustee Area 2.

Huge thank you to everyone who participated in making this possible and especially for ALL the volunteers who canvassed in the blazing heat, pouring rain, bad air quality, and beautiful days when they would rather be spending time with their families.

This is democracy in action and it’s a beautiful thing.

We have a beautifully diverse community and so it’s incredibly disappointing that Trustee MacDonald thinks Ethnic Studies is a “luxury item” we shouldn’t be invested in. It’s also disconcerting that she doesn’t know that it’s a class required to graduate here in Woodland. WJUSD has proudly led the way in having this important class where it’s soon to be a state mandated graduation requirement.

Please click the link for a clip of last Thursday’s WJUSD board meeting when Trustee MacDonald voted against funding ethnic studies.

Woodland Joint Unified School District Trustee Emily MacDonald again wasted time engaging in political posturing rather than doing the work of governing. Despite the requirement that Woodland schools implement coursework in Ethnic Studies, Trustee MacDonald bizarrley tried to claim it was a “luxur...

In honor of Constitution Week we wanted to express our gratitude to the First Amendment for our right to petition the government for a redress of grievances of our elected government officials. Further we are grateful to the state of California for having a procedure that has been part of our state’s democratic process since 1911 to recall elected officials who have failed to adequately represent their voters.

“Resolution Reaffirming Support for All Woodland Youth”

Trustee MacDonald’s concerns about the resolution were as follows:

1.Formatting of the resolution

2.The amount of work for staff

3.She was unsure what the terms indoctrination and implicit bias meant and thought they should be defined in the resolution

4.She wasn’t sure if the implicit bias trainings were mandatory for students or not (they are not, they are mandatory to be offered to students)

She requested that the resolution come back to the board with changes. When asked by the Board President Villagrana if she would support the resolution if it came back with her requested changes she said, “I don’t know”.

The resolution passed with Trustee MacDonald’s suggestion to define implicit bias, as well as a change suggested by Trustee Bautista Zavala, with the vote of 6 YES and 1 NO from Trustee MacDonald.

Recall MacDonald Committee’s Response to Trustee MacDonald’s NO vote:

Trustee MacDonald claimed at the meeting (after failing to do so on multiple occasions in the last few meetings) to support all students then voted NO on passing a resolution that’s sole purpose was to show that WJUSD does indeed support all students. Apparently her purported concerns of formatting were more important that trying to heal the wound she has inflicted onto our community. It sure doesn’t seem like supporting all students is a big concern for her.

If you would like to see discussion of the resolution item please check our website for the video. It’s informative of the efforts the other Trustees made to acomidated MacDonald’s concerns.

Don’t forget that this Thursday, July 27th at 6pm is the next school board meeting. This is the meeting we are asking Trustee MacDonald to resign by the end of or we will be moving forward with the recall process. We are hoping to get again fill the board room with people there to support our Transgender community as well as the wider LGBTQAI+ community.

If you can’t attend the meeting please leave a voice mail comment (information below). If you are comfortable doing so please ask Trustee MacDonald to resign and save our community the time, effort, and expense of a recall.

Some of our committee will be at the meeting at 5:30pm (corrected from the previous posted 5pm as the doors won’t nessicarily be open by then) with supplies to make posters if any one wants to come early and participate.

From the board packet on public comments to the board. This would be for agenda item G (Public comment to the board).

“Public Comment to the Board: Members of the public are encouraged to attend Board meetings and to address the Board concerning any item on the agenda or within the Board's jurisdiction.
Additional options for public comment:
1. Voicemail Public Comments: Public comments may be submitted by voicemail by 2:00 pm on the Board Meeting date, at 530-406-5800, and they will be played during the meeting if time permits. Please indicate the item's number and title in your message.
2. Written Public Comments Via Email: Public comments may be submitted via email by 2:00 pm on the Board Meeting date to [email protected]. Public comments submitted via email will be included in the meeting minutes, but will not be read during the meeting.”

(Note that emailed public comments are no longer read at board meetings and it takes a board member going out of their way to see them. Given Trustee MacDonald can’t find the time to attend all board meetings to hear from her community I would not rely on that option to get your concerns to her.)

The address for the WJUSD board meeting is;

Trustee Area Two deserves representation that is passionate about serving on the board and wants to represent ALL students, and Trustee MacDonald fails on both counts. She didn’t even want the seat she ran for, and given her lack of attendance at the previous school board meeting, it seems maybe this is an inconvenient job for her. We demand she resign and let some one who actually want to represnt ALL fill the seat.

We deserve better.

Trustee MacDonald at a June 17th special board meeting:

“I’m going to be perfectly frank, I did not think I had a prayer of winning this election, if I had thought I was going to win the election I probably would not have run. I didn’t really need a position on the school board. I did not intend to add this to my list of responsibilities.”

🏳️‍⚧️Breaking news from the Recall Campaign!🏳️‍🌈

As of last night we have reached the legally required number of signatures for the first stage of a recall. That doesn’t mean we don’t still want more to sign onto our intention to recall, we absolute do, but at this point we are ready to file this first step if Trustee MacDonald fails to resign by the end of the next school board meeting.

So, please keep sending us messages on Facebook or thought our website recallmacdonald.com if you or some one you know wants to sign on still.

We want to make sure everyone marks their calendars for the next board meeting which will be July 27th at 6pm. We have requested that Trustee MacDonald resign by the end of that board meeting or we will be filing the Notice of Intention to Circulate Recall Petition which is the first step in the recall process. We hope to show how many people in our Woodland support our LGBTQAI+ community and will stand with them in the face of such damaging comments from Trustee MacDonald. If you feel so moved please submit a public comment of three minutes or less. You can do that ahead of time over voicemail (these must be made by 2pm the day of the meeting by calling 530-406-5800) or at the meeting itself.
