It is National Dog Day 🐾 While we spoil our pups today, a heartbreaking reality exists: over 1 in 5 seniors in America skip meals to feed their beloved pets.

No senior should have to choose between their nourishment and their best friend's. Meals on Wheels Yolo County’s MOW PAWS program is here for seniors like Alice, a widowed retired school teacher, and her faithful companion dog, Frankie. They receive nutritious meals delivered right to their door in Winters. Alice is endlessly grateful for MOW Yolo staff like Kathy T., who care for her and her fur babies.

Will you join us in celebrating with a gift to Meals on Wheels Yolo County? It is the perfect way to honor your dog today. Donate to ensure our seniors, like Alice, and their pets, like Frankie, can EAT: Eat, Age, and Thrive side-by-side. 💙🐶💚 www.mowyolo.org/donate-2/

🧊 ❄️ Keeping it cool for Yolo County seniors! 🧊 ❄️

In 2024, when vandals cut power to our meal production facility over a holiday weekend. One power outage = weeks' worth of meals for our aging neighbors, GONE.

Thanks to a $5,000 grant from Teichert Foundation, a new 24/7 cellular temperature monitoring system will alert the Meals on Wheels Yolo County team the moment cold storage temperatures drop — protecting the 5,000+ meals produced weekly in our Winters Meal Production facility, ensuring they stay cool and fresh before being safely delivered to vulnerable seniors in every corner of Yolo County.

Because every senior deserves to EAT: Eat, Age, Thrive.

THANK YOU, TEICHERT FOUNDATION!

For many seniors, the hardest part of aging isn’t physical—it’s the profound quiet of an empty home. That’s why Cafe Yolo is so vital; it provides much more than a hot meal, it is a welcoming space for engaging conversation and a sense of true belonging 💚💙

When Dianne moved to Yolo County from Iowa, she didn’t know anyone. Today, she attends Cafe Yolo each week and shares, “Now I have lifelong friends.” For Tina, the gatherings are just as essential: “It’s one of the only times I get to socialize during the week,” she says.

We’re working to expand the Cafe Yolo schedule throughout the county, so seniors like Dianne and Tina can share a meal and connect with friends more often 😊

That’s where you come in! Help ensure all our aging neighbors can EAT: Eat, Age, Thrive. Set a place at the table today at www.mowyolo.org

🎉 It's National Nonprofit Day, and we're celebrating with 154 pounds of dry cat food and 8 cases of canned food, generously donated by our partners at UC Davis Accessible Veterinary Care! 🐈

For homebound seniors across Yolo County, a beloved pet is often their closest companion. Many seniors will go hungry before letting their pet go hungry. Thanks to this donation, our MOW PAWS program can keep delivering pet food alongside meals, so no senior has to choose between their own nutrition and their pet's well-being 💚💙

AVC connects UC Davis faculty and students with dogs and cats belonging to clients with limited resources or other barriers to care, including new outreach in Knights Landing and a clinic that just opened inside the Davis Petco. Together, we're working toward the same goal: making sure the beloved pets of vulnerable seniors are nourished and well cared for.

We are incredibly honored to announce that Meals on Wheels Yolo County has received a generous $10,000 grant from Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer U.S.! 💙

Not all seniors nourished via MOW Yolo’s Home-Delivered Meals Program have funds, friends, or family to ensure uninterrupted nutritional support on the weekends. The Weekend Food Project offers predictable delivery of shelf-stable foods to these older adults, who tend to be especially vulnerable to food insecurity. With Bayer Fund's generous support, we are providing extra items to bridge the nutritional gap over the weekends, extending seniors’ ability to age in place healthily and safely as long as possible.

Thank you, Bayer Fund, for being a dedicated partner in our mission and for investing in the health and well-being of our Yolo County seniors!
