Today, we recognize and celebrate the incredible strength, courage, and resilience of all cancer survivors.

National Cancer Survivors Day is a reminder that every survivorโ€™s journey is unique, filled with challenges, victories, hope, and determination. It is a day to honor those who have fought the battle, those who continue to fight, and the loved ones who stand beside them every step of the way.

A special recognition goes to Marcela of the Woodland Police Department. Last year, Marcela faced one of lifeโ€™s toughest challenges with unwavering strength and grace. Today, we are proud to celebrate that she is cancer-free and thriving. Her perseverance, positivity, and courage continue to inspire everyone around her.

Your story is a testament to the power of hope and the strength of the human spirit.

๐Ÿ’œ To all cancer survivors: We celebrate you today and every day. Your courage inspires us, your resilience motivates us, and your victories give hope to others.

โš ๏ธ E-BIKE OR E-MOTORCYCLE? KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. โš ๏ธ

Not every electric two-wheeled vehicle is considered an e-bike under California law. Class 1, 2, and 3 e-bikes are designed with pedals, limited motor power, and speed restrictions. Vehicles capable of higher speeds and lacking functional pedals may be classified as electric motorcycles and are subject to licensing, registration, insurance, and roadway requirements.

Parents and riders should understand the laws before purchasing or operating an electric bike. Higher speeds can increase the risk of serious injury, especially when helmets are not worn or traffic laws are ignored.

๐Ÿšฒ Ride responsibly.
๐Ÿšฆ Obey traffic laws.
๐Ÿ‘€ Stay alert and watch for others on the road. (RB)

๐ŸŒณ TREE STOPS DRUNK DRIVER BEFORE ANYONE WAS HURT ๐Ÿš—

This 18-year-old driver was lucky.

While driving on East Street, the vehicle left the roadway, crashed into a tree, and overturned. The driver, a Davis resident, was found to be impaired and arrested for DUI with a .16 BAC โ€” twice the adult legal limit.

The good news? The driver was wearing a seatbelt. That seatbelt helped the driver walk away with only minor airbag abrasions. The outcome could have been very different had it been another car rather than a tree.

As graduation season kicks off, here are some facts every young driver should know:

๐ŸŽ“ If you're under 21, the legal limit is ZERO alcohol.

๐Ÿ“Š Drivers ages 16-20 are 17 times more likely to die in a crash with a BAC of .08 compared to sober drivers.

๐Ÿš— New drivers have less experience behind the wheel, making alcohol, ma*****na, and other impairing substances even more dangerous.

๐ŸŽ‰ Graduation parties often involve alcohol. Plan ahead. Have a sober ride. Speak up if a friend is about to make a bad decision.

๐ŸŒฟMarijuana and other drugs impair judgment, reaction time, and driving ability just like alcohol.

One bad decision can changeโ€”or endโ€”a life in seconds. Don't become a statistic.

Choose a sober ride.
Choose your future.
Choose to survive.

๐Ÿšจ FINAL UPDATE โ€“ STRUCTURE FIRE ON WEST STREET ๐Ÿšจ

As of this time, the fire has been extinguished, all fire crews have cleared the scene, and all roadways have been reopened to traffic.

The Woodland Fire Department would like to thank our partners at the Woodland Police Department, City of Woodland Public Works, and the City of Woodland Water Department for their assistance during this incident. Their support helped ensure a safe and coordinated response.

We would also like to thank the community for its patience and cooperation while emergency crews worked in the area.

As previously reported, no residents were home at the time of the fire. Tragically, three family pets were lost despite the lifesaving efforts of firefighters and AMR personnel. Our thoughts remain with the family during this difficult time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Update: 1:58 pm

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Residential Structure Fire Claims Three Family Pets

On June 2, 2026, Woodland Fire Department crews responded to a working residential structure fire in the 1000 block of West Street.

Firefighters arrived to find an active fire and immediately initiated an aggressive interior fire attack. Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control and prevent further damage to the residence.

No occupants were home at the time of the fire. During search operations, firefighters located three cats inside the residence and removed them from the home. Firefighters and AMR personnel worked together to provide emergency care, including CPR and oxygen resuscitation efforts. Despite those efforts, all three cats succumbed to their injuries.

This is a heartbreaking outcome for the family and for the first responders who worked tirelessly to save the animals. Our thoughts are with the residents as they cope with the loss of their beloved pets.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Woodland PD Completes Our Leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Yesterday, the Woodland Police Department proudly participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) as Guardians of the Flame, helping raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Northern California and its athletes.

The Special Olympics hosts numerous events throughout the region, including the Law Enforcement Torch Run, Tip-A-Cop, and the Guardian Games. Law enforcement officers from agencies across California come together each year to support these incredible athletes and the mission of Special Olympics.

This year, Woodland PD had the honor of passing the torch to the Yolo County Probation Department on the steps of the historic courthouse, in front of the Yolo County Law Enforcement Memorial.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and showed their support along the route!

Stay tuned for information about an upcoming Tip-A-Cop event right here in Woodland, where you'll have another opportunity to support Special Olympics and its athletes. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›
