One of the roles a Yolo County CASA volunteer can play in supporting a child in foster care is keeping important family connections, especially with siblings. 💞 From a CASA volunteer:
“I know it’s important for her to be with her sister, so I’ve always advocated to keep them together. After her second placement, I asked her how she was doing, and she said, ‘I have my stuff & I have my sister. That’s all I need.’
💙 It brings tears to my eyes whenever I think about it because her childhood is so different from most children’s.”

From a local CASA volunteer: Speaking of a different childhood, Jose recently took his CASA child to a Rivercats game. “He had no idea how baseball worked so I was trying to explain all the rules to him first. I’ll never forget him sitting in his seat, eating cotton candy, and with a big smile exclaiming, ‘I feel like a king.’ It was a bittersweet experience to see him so happy to experience a baseball game and cotton candy because for most kids, stuff like that is commonplace.”❤️🩹

Paul was there when his youth was told by a foster parent during a trial visit that she “didn’t want him.” As the youth sobbed, confused about why he wasn’t “loved,” Paul was able to assure him that he would see him through this time in his life.
