Happy Solstice

Twas the night before solstice and all through the park,
not a creature was stirring in the cold, snowy dark.

Marmots were snug in their dens,
with snowshoe hares hopping over their heads.

Campers were bundled up in their tents,
with visions of the snow-covered Rocky Mountains in their heads.

Weasels, elk, and deer danced in the silver moonlight.
Owl, high in its perch, hooted "Happy Solstice to all and have a good night."

Memorial Day in the new MMG! Nine years ago this memory garden was created in Florida and now holds more memories than ever.

Taking today to remember my grandfathers who fought and served in WWII, an uncle in Vietnam and my dad's service at Arlington in the Honor Guard.

Moving into a bigger space has given us the chance to open some long-packed bins—each one like opening a time capsule. Today, I came across a framed collection of three old photos tucked away in a bin full of family memories.

If I’m remembering right, in the first photo, it’s my grandmother Betty with my mother as a baby in her arms. In the second, there’s a small couple I don’t recognize, but that baby is still my mom. And in the third, it’s my great-grandmother holding my mom again, surrounded by others whose names I may not know—but whose legacy I carry.

What a gift to find these on Mother’s Day. A quiet, powerful reminder of the generations of mothers who came before me—their strength, their love, and the lives they built that made mine possible.

A fresh start for The MMG- patio space at the new place can accommodate plants in containers- let the thriving begin! With the early morning and last afternoon sun, I'm needing to move the succulents into the bedroom for direct sun! I will master this gardening in the PNW someday
