California Wheat Commission

California Wheat Commission Representing and working on behalf of California Wheat Producers This effort is accomplished through targeted research and market development efforts.

ABOUT US
The California Wheat Commission (CWC) was established in 1983, expressly to support research that improves California wheat quality and marketability and to develop and maintain domestic and international markets for California wheat. In research, the Commission provides funding for the wheat breeding program and the statewide field trials program at the University of California, Davis. F

or the past four years, the Commission also funded special mini-grants for Cooperative Extension field research, as well as a wheat root study at UC Riverside. The California Wheat Commission is unique among the 19 wheat commissions in the country in that it is the only wheat commission with its own on-site Milling and Baking Laboratory. The lab performs milling quality testing, chemical analysis of wheat and flour, physical dough testing and baking and noodle production tests. The California crop is analyzed for its quality characteristics each year and the data generated is published in Wheat Crop Quality reports that are available to potential buyers in both domestic and international markets. The Wheat Commission also analyzes hundreds of samples each year of advanced experimental wheat varieties being developed by private and public breeding programs to support varietal development. Enabling Legislation and Current Assessment Rate
The Commission's enabling statue is part of the California Food and Agricultural Code, Division 22. Click this link for the California Wheat Commission Law. The assessment rate for the 2017/2018 fiscal year (ending April 30) is $.075/cwt.
