To ensure the well-being of our community during this heatwave, Yolo County, in collaboration with our partners, has taken proactive measures to provide relief and support. From July 2nd to July 7th, Yolobus will be offering free services to assist residents. Additionally, a list of available cooling locations can be found at www.YoloCounty.org/CoolDownYolo

All community members are welcome at the cooling locations. Residents are encouraged to call 2-1-1 Yolo for the most up-to-date information on locations, days, and operating hours. Residents are also urged to utilize existing cooling spaces such as libraries and community centers throughout the county.

The County will continue to monitor the weather and updates from the National Weather Service to determine if any extensions are necessary. Yolo County appreciates the partnership and collaboration of all our city partners and Yolo Bus in ensuring that all county residents are safe from the extreme heat.

The City is proud to celebrate Juneteenth, a federally recognized holiday celebrating the emancipation of enslaved people.

Why June 19? On June 19, 1865, Union troops freed enslaved African Americans in Galveston Bay and across Texas some two and a half years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

On June 4, 2024, the Woodland City Council adopted a proclamation recognizing today as Juneteenth. This proclamation honors and remembers African Americans in Woodland who aided as brick masons in the construction of the historic Woodland Opera House, and remembers founding members of the Second Baptist Church, which has a long and renowned place in Woodland.

The proclamation also encourages residents to participate in activities that recognize and celebrate the contributions of our African American neighbors, often in the face of discrimination, segregation, and racism.
