On August 21st, one of our own, Officer Maria Sierra, suffered a sudden brain aneurysm rupture while attending training at our department. The quick actions of her colleagues and the skill of the medical team at two local hospitals, Woodland Memorial Hospital and Mercy San Juan Medical Center, have stabilized her.

She survived emergency surgery, but her path forward will be difficult and uncertain. While her family focuses on her healing, they are also facing heavy financial burdens.

Maria has dedicated her life to service. From her early days as an Explorer to her current role as a School Resource Officer, she has invested her time, talent, and heart into building connections with youth, mentoring new officers, and strengthening our community.

Now, she and her family need us. The WPOA has created a GoFundMe to support Maria, her husband, and their young daughter.

If you’ve ever seen the impact a single committed officer can have on a community, Maria is living proof. Please consider donating or sharing.

👮‍♂️ Happy Father’s Day from the Woodland Police Department! 👮‍♂️

Today, we honor all the fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, and father figures who lead with love, strength, and quiet courage — especially the dedicated dads in our department who are proudly serving our community today.

To every dad in uniform who’s spending this day protecting others — thank you for your sacrifice, commitment, and heart. And to all the men who fill the role of "dad" in someone’s life, we see you and we appreciate you.

Wishing everyone a safe, meaningful Father’s Day. 💙

As we wrap up National First Responder Day, I want to take a moment to recognize and thank the remarkable men and women who serve our Woodland community.

From early mornings to late nights, police officers, firefighters, EMS teams, dispatchers, and all first responders across the globe work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. Today, we pause to honor their bravery, dedication, and the countless sacrifices they make to protect and serve.

To each of you – thank you for all you do. Our community is stronger and safer because of your commitment, and we are grateful every day. Here’s to the heroes of Woodland!

Congratulations to Ofcr Shepard and K-9 Ricky for their outstanding work and success at the Ripon K-9 Trials.

Our K-9 officers and their four-legged partners play a crucial role in protecting the community. These dedicated teams assist with tracking suspects, locating missing persons, and detecting dangerous substances. Their partnership is built on trust, making our department stronger and more effective.

Thank you for supporting our K-9 program and recognizing the impact these incredible officers and K-9’s have on keeping Woodland safe. 🐕‍🦺💙

Our K9 unit participated in trials last month in Ripon, CA. We are pleased that Officer Shepard and K9 Ricky brought back the following awards:
1st Place- Narcotics Building Search
2nd Place- Narcotics Overall
3rd Place- Patrol Agility
5th Place- Patrol Overall
We are proud of our K9 unit in these competitions and also on the field. (MV)

Wrapping up week 2 and lots going on here in the City of Woodland this weekend. Today the Woodland Police Department participated in the 2nd annual NAMI walk hosted at Woodland Community College.

Then onto the Woodland Ecumenical & Multi-Faith Ministries bringing our community together to promote friendship and respect. Along with some delicious food (which brings everyone together). Our HOST Team and Canine team did a great job representing and connecting with our community.

Chief Kaff was recognized for his work as the police chief and the work he did to connect with our community. https://woodlandwemm.org

Next up was the Yolo County Retired Peace Officers Association this afternoon. Thank you to all the members and volunteers for the camaraderie and dedication. (Sorry I got there late). Pictures forthcoming.
