Now is NOT the time to Cut Critical HUD Programs — Call Congress Today!

As the affordable housing crisis threatens to upend the lives of millions, now is not the time for severe cuts to HUD! Use NAHRO's talking points to tell Congress to oppose significant cuts to life-saving programs that house American families.

Congressionally authorized programs like HCV, Public Housing, and Project-Based Rental Assistance serve over 4.5 million households, and cutting these programs would destabilize families and devastate communities. Housers need HUD programs to be responsibly and adequately funded to provide the homes needed to keep families safe.

With so many American families at risk, NAHRO must use its voice to tell Congress to push back on any attempts to cut HUD programs! Call your Members of Congress today and tell them that cuts will destabilize families, increase homelessness across the country, and impact local economies.

There are many ways to find your members’ phone number.

You can find your members of Congress here.
https://www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member

You can also look up your representative here and your Senators here.
https://www.senate.gov/senators/senators-contact.htm?Class=1

This website also provides an easy way to quickly look up the phone numbers for your Members of Congress.
Note: Although the views on the website are not NAHRO’s, it is a useful resource that can help you directly call your members of Congress’ offices.

Don't forget to use NAHRO’s talking points to convey our message!

🌳 Enhancements at El Rio: New Trees & Walking Path! 🌳

This morning, together with staff from the Solano County Water Agency, Putah Creek Council and Volunteers, we planted over 250 trees along Putah Creek on the south end of our El Rio property! SCWA has also been hard at work spreading mulch to create a walkable path for our residents.

It was an amazing morning – the creek is flowing beautifully with all the recent rain, and the weather cooperated wonderfully. This is a fantastic addition to enhance our El Rio community!

Special thanks to:
Putah Creek Council, Solano County Water Agency, Albert Vallecillo, Winters City Council, Lucas Frerichs for Yolo County Supervisor, District 2, Mariani Nut Company

We're so excited about the positive impact this will have on our community. Check out the photos here:

Ask Congress to Protect HUD from Executive Branch Funding Cuts

Rental assistance and community development programs are essential to American communities. Send a letter to Congress and the White House to tell Washington about the importance of these programs to the families you serve and the economic impacts of these programs for local landlords.

You can send the letter as is or customize it based on your state or community (e.g., how much Housing Assistance Payment [HAP] Funding are you disbursing to your local landlords?). NAHRO recommends adding language specific to your community about the economic impacts of these programs.

Finally, while sending a letter is helpful, calling is even more helpful. NAHRO strongly recommends that all housing agencies call their congressional offices and let them know that HUD programs are essential and cuts to them should not be made through the executive branch. Search for your Senators and Representatives online or call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121.

This past Wednesday, our Executive Director, Ian Evans, had a chance to present at the California Policy Center for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Housing for All: Best Practices in IDD Housing Development Conference in Sacramento. The conference brought together housing experts and those throughout the state that serve individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, mostly from the Regional Center system, but also providers and advocates. It was a great opportunity to think collaboratively about how to intentionally design housing and communities to support this population, and very timely! Yolo County Housing and our non-profit New Hope CDC are partnering with Brinshore Development and Operative Office Inc on a new construction affordable housing project, that thanks to Alta California Regional Center funding will include dedicated units to house individuals with intellection and/or developmental disabilities.

Yolo County Housing 's Executive Director, Ian Evans, and Facilities/Maintenance Manager, Tom Dogias, provided a tour of Yolo County Housing's properties and upcoming projects in West Sacramento to Oscar Villegas, Yolo County Supervisor, District 1 and his team today. They're pictured here discussing two projects the Riverbend Senior Manor complex, which is Yolo County Housing's senior/disabled public housing site. Yolo County Housing will be replacing the roofing and HVAC systems at the site over the next several months, and will be adding a new outdoor community space complete with a gazebo, tables, chairs, walkways, and newly planted trees!

The tour also included a stop at the new construction affordable housing site, The Huddle, which was fully leased within 1 month of opening this past November, and the upcoming site for a new 36-unit affordable housing site which should break ground in the next 18-24 months. We're grateful to Supervisor Villegas for his interest in our work and ongoing support of the communities we serve.
