🚀 Speed Check: Earth vs. Space Edition 🌕

Artemis II is cruising around the far side of the moon at about 1,190 mph… and will hit speeds up to 24,000 mph during its mission. 😳

Meanwhile, back here on Earth…
🚧 Construction zone speed limit: 55 mph 🚧

So unless you’re planning a lunar flyby, there’s no need to channel astronaut-level speed through a work zone.

🌎 Let’s keep the high speeds in space and the safe speeds right here on Earth. PLEASE, slow for the cone zone.

In California, it is illegal to hold and use a handheld cell phone while driving. Drivers may only use hands-free devices, and even then, use should be limited to essential functions.

Distractions go beyond your phone; eating, adjusting music, or interacting with passengers can take your attention off the road. Just because something isn’t illegal doesn’t mean it’s safe.

Make the choice to stay focused. Put the phone down, keep your eyes on the road, and commit to driving distraction-free. Your safety and the safety of others depends on it.

This morning, officers from the CHP Woodland Area responded to a solo vehicle rollover crash on SR-113 northbound, just south of Gibson Road. Fortunately, the driver sustained only minor injuries.

Let this be a reminder, wear your seatbelt every time you get in a vehicle. Seatbelts are the single most effective way to prevent serious injury or death in a crash. There are no excuses, buckle up, every trip, every time.

It’s a beautiful day for a drive! With rising temperatures and clear skies, it’s the perfect time to enjoy a wide-open country road.

If you head out, remember to drive safely:
• Watch your speed on long, open stretches of road
• Stay alert for farm equipment, cyclists, and wildlife
• Keep a safe following distance
• Always wear your seatbelt and avoid distractions

Enjoy the sunshine and the scenery but make safety part of the ride.

Believe it or not… there’s snow in them there hills!

Snow has made its way to Yolo County, in Rumsey Canyon. While it may look beautiful, it can quickly create slick and hazardous roadway conditions.

Whether it’s snow, rain, or fog, always adjust your speed, increase following distance, and drive for the conditions. Slow down and stay alert so everyone makes it home safely.

On Sunday night, officers from the CHP Woodland Area responded to a dangerous situation after a motorist made a wrong turn and drove onto active railroad tracks on County Road 105 near County Road 32A.

Fortunately, CHP Woodland officers quickly coordinated with dispatch to have approaching trains stopped before tragedy struck. Thanks to swift action and communication, a potential collision was avoided and no injuries were reported.

After contacting the driver, officers conducted an investigation and ultimately placed the individual under arrest for suspicion of DUI.

Driving under the influence puts not only the impaired driver at risk, but also passengers, train crews, first responders, and the public. A single poor decision can have life-altering or life-ending consequences. In this case, quick action prevented what could have been a catastrophic outcome.

Impaired driving is 100% preventable.
If you plan to drink or use substances:
• Designate a sober driver
• Use a rideshare or taxi
• Call a friend or family member
• Stay where you are

No shortcut, wrong turn, or impaired decision is worth your life or someone else’s. Make the safe choice before you get behind the wheel.

Together, we can keep our roadways and railroad crossings safe for everyone.

Early this morning, a rock slide occurred on State Route 16 approximately half a mile east of the Yolo/Colusa County line. As a result, the roadway is currently closed in both directions at that location.

At this time, there is no estimated time for reopening. Crews will be working to assess and clear the area as safely and quickly as possible.

Alternate Routes:
• In Colusa County, motorists traveling from SR-20 should use Interstate 5 as an alternate route.
• In Yolo County, motorists traveling from I-505 should also use Interstate 5 as an alternate route.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and avoid the area if possible.

Updates will be provided on the CHP Woodland Area’s X page, , as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Super Bowl Sunday Safety Reminder

Super Bowl Sunday is about good food, good company, and great football but most importantly, it’s about making it home safely.

No matter which team you’re rooting for, we’re all on the same team when it comes to safety. Plan ahead and never drive impaired.

Before the game and beyond, help keep our roads safe by:
- Designating a sober driver, using a rideshare, or public transportation
- Hosting responsibly and offering non-alcoholic options
- Buckling up every seat, every trip
- Putting the phone down and driving distraction-free
- Slowing down and giving yourself extra time to get where you’re going
- If you’ve been drinking or feel impaired, don’t drive. Make another plan.

Your choices matter. Let’s make Super Bowl Sunday a win for everyone by ensuring every trip ends safely.
