This week the Hamilton County Park Rangers hosted Mental Health America of Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky's 2026 Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) award banquet.

We would like to congratulate Staff Sergeant Kelley for his 2026 CIT Recognition. S.Sgt. Kelley was recognized for his leadership, tactics, empathy, and patience when dealing with a patient that was in crisis. S.Sgt. Kelley spent hours talking an armed patient down and deescalated the situation from becoming much worse and was able to get the patient to the hospital without force or injury to anyone on scene.

Sometimes police work can seem transactional with Officers arriving on scene, do their best to fix the problem, and head straight to their next call.

S.Sgt. Kelley slows down and treats every call for service like it is the most important call of the day.

Thank you S.Sgt. Kelley for all that you do for the Woodlawn Police Department, the community, and your leadership

Congratulations, much deserved!

To the men and women who wake up everyday, put on that badge never knowing if it will be their last shift. Never knowing what the day has planned. Never knowing if you will get off on time or if you will end up working eighteen-hour days. Going from a call where you have a minor auto accident to a call where you endure a traumatic scene staying in control and overpowering those anxious feelings. Thank you for your service.
To the men and women who woke up, put on that badge to endure these everyday calls but didn't make it home...
Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice.
Your tireless efforts to protect and serve our communities with your selfless service, bravery and dedication to the job will never go unnoticed.

Please join us in congratulating Police/Mayor's Court Clerk Tonya Perkins and Officer Sampson on their 2025 awards.

Tonya Perkins has been with the Woodlawn Police Department for the last 5 years. She is a leader within the department and never hesitates to help an Officer out. She keeps the Officers up to date on training, keeps Mayor's Court organized, and completes monthly validations and yearly audits. She is able to do all of this while answering the phone and assisting people as they walk into the Police Department.

Tonya Perkins was recognized by Chief Williams for her incredible hard work and dedication to the Community and Department with the 2025 Chief's Award.

Officer Sampson has been with the Woodlawn Police Department 4 years. She has been a cornerstone for the Department by leading by example. Officer Sampson is well known throughout the Village because of her community interaction in the local schools, events, and dropping in at different businesses to make sure everything is okay.

Officer Sampson is a certified Field Training Officer (FTO) and trained 2 new Officers along with completing her daily duties. Officer Sampson is known for her teamwork and her willingness to drop everything to help someone. She is a Patrol Officer that also assists in detective work. She worked a long felony case for months and was able to gather enough evidence to file multiple charges on the suspect.

Officer Sampson was recognized by Chief Williams and peers as the 2025 Officer of the Year. This is Officer Sampson's second time being recognized for this award as she also received it in 2023.
