It's warming up Cuyahoga County!

As you head outdoors this summer keep the signs and symptoms of heat-related illness and injury in mind.

Symptoms like muscle cramps, dizziness, headaches, weakness, and nausea could indicate a heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

If you notice these symptoms in yourself or someone else move out of the heat into the shade or a cool, air-conditioned place.

Sip chilled water or a sports drink with electrolytes. No caffeine or alcohol.

Remove any heavy or tight fititng clothing.

If symptoms do not improve seek medical attention.

Tackling some spring cleaning or painting this weekend?

Oil-soaked rags can start a fire if not handled safely. As oil-based paints and stains dry, they give off heat. If rags are piled up or put in a closed container, that heat can build up and start a fire.

Stay safe:
• Lay rags flat to dry outside, away from anything that can burn
• Or place them in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid

The National Incident Management System Guideline for Resource Management Preparedness enables many organizational elements to collaborate and coordinate to systematically manage resources— personnel, teams, facilities, equipment, and supplies. Most jurisdictions or organizations do not own and maintain all the resources necessary to address all potential threats and hazards. Therefore, effective resource management includes making good use of each jurisdiction’s resources, engaging private sector resources, involving volunteer organization,s and encouraging further development of mutual aid agreements.

Just a few days ago we were reaching for jackets. Now Cuyahoga is getting a preview of summer. With temperatures climbing over the next two days, residents should try to stay hydrated, limit time in the heat, check on older neighbors and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Cleveland weather keeps us guessing, but heat safety is no joke.
