As the 2026-2027 school year resumes next week, here's a reminder regarding crosswalks.

PARALLEL CROSSWALK: When approaching a parallel crosswalk, remember that vehicles must also stop if a pedestrian is approaching or currently on the vehicle's side of the road. Vehicles may proceed once pedestrians reach the midpoint. Eye contact between drivers and pedestrians is crucial for everyone's safety. Let's all do our part to stay alert and protect our busy neighborhoods.

ZEBRA/LADDER CROSSWALK: Zebra or ladder crosswalks are specifically designed to ensure that drivers yield to pedestrians for safe crossings. Vehicles CANNOT PROCEED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION UNTIL THE PEDESTRIAN IS SAFELY ACROSS BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD -- this rule applies at all times, not just during school hours. You’ll find these important crosswalks in school zones and busy intersections to enhance the safety of our community, especially for students and crossing guards.

Remember to ALWAYS STOP BEFORE the LINE at ALL CROSSWALKS, and together, we can make our streets SAFER for everyone!
