U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Tybee

Yesterday the crew of U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Tybee said their last goodbye as the keys were handed over to the Surface Acquisitions Logistics Center. Thank you to all of her past crews that kept her in great condition as she moves to the next adventure in her life! Lastly, thank you to the decommissioning crew and their families for giving her the record breaking operational send off that she deserved. Fair winds and following seas ❤️

It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of Clarence “Charlie” Rice on August 29, 2022. A fellow coastie, he was the first lieutenant and a plank owner on CGC TYBEE. Fair winds and following seas shipmate, we have the watch.

CGC TYBEE has had a very busy and productive patrol! We had a handful of initial certifications to include BM3 Keehner getting his coxswain letter, SN Dean certifying as a boat crew member, MK3 Greiner earned his underway EOW letter, and BM2 Miller & 3/C Lee qualifying as QMOW.

Sad to say goodbye to LTJG Roberts, MKC Lehman, BM2 Cary and GM2 Patterson. The impact you guys have made on the unit has been immeasurable! Thank you guys for your hard work and dedication on the Tybee!

The Tybee was excited to be the centerpiece for the blue angels while enforcing the “DANGER ZONE” (cue the song!) But It was absolutely an amazing experience for the Crew and the beach crowd!

Bravo Zulu to the Tybee crew for such an awesome patrol! We conducted Towex training with the CGC Dependable, including a Refueling at Sea (RAS) for practice! Shortly after, we responded to a Marine Safety Information Broadcast about a 15 foot piling that was adrift. To finish off our patrol, we made our way over to a Fishing vessel that was disabled, and we put her in tow and brought her home safely! Great job team👍🏼

The last few months have been eventful for Tybee. Thanks to Air Station Cape Cod for some awesome training. We conducted basket hoisting in the event of a Medevac! With the help of their Helicopter Rescue Swimmer, we were able to train several crew-members on how to perform this unique task. We also had 4 new members race each to other put on the Immersion Suit!! FN Dean took 1st place.

Last week we headed south to do a Area of Responsibility Familiarization patrol which included transiting through “Hell Gate” and into the East River in NYC! We also did a morale fundraiser including ”Pie in The Face”. The crew had such a fun time! These messy faces were our CO, XO and BM3 👍🏼👍🏼

Heading into the winter time has been busy for Tybee! We conducted three Search and Rescue cases including towing of 2 different fishing vessels, that were inoperable due to a machinery casualty. We’re happy we could help out and get them home safe!

Today we recognized Tybee’s Engineering Department for their hard work and determination to fix our ships Reduction gear during our emergency repair in Boston! Thanks to those efforts, we are back on schedule and fully mission capable. We also are welcoming aboard two new shipmates from bootcamp, FN Kneeland & FN Declan!
