Woodstock Fire Responds to West Woodstock Wind Event

Woodstock, VT — On June 18, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Woodstock Fire responded to the West Woodstock area following a significant wind event.

Upon arrival, crews found a large area of storm damage with numerous trees down, impacting several homes and businesses. Woodstock Fire established command and began door-to-door checks to ensure the safety of residents and evaluate affected properties.

Crews secured damaged properties where needed, including shutting off power and roof-mounted solar systems at vacant buildings to prevent additional hazards.

No injuries were reported. Damage throughout the area ranged from minor to moderate, with one structure completely destroyed.

Woodstock Fire reminds residents to use caution around storm-damaged areas, stay away from downed trees and utility lines, and report any hazards.

We would like to thank our mutual aid partners, utility crews, and community members for their assistance during this incident.

Woodstock Fire/EMS Responds to Commercial Vehicle Crash with Fuel Spill
Woodstock, VT — On June 18, 2026, at approximately 12:17 p.m., Woodstock Fire/EMS was dispatched to Elm Street, north of Old River Road, for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving downed power lines.
Upon arrival, crews determined that a commercial vehicle carrying a large industrial air compressor had left the roadway and traveled down an embankment near the river. All occupants were out of the vehicle upon arrival and declined medical evaluation.
During the investigation, crews discovered fuel leaking from the vehicle’s saddle tanks and an onboard generator fuel tank. Woodstock Fire/EMS personnel deployed multiple rows of containment booms to prevent fuel from spreading downstream. An unknown amount of diesel fuel entered the river prior to containment efforts.
Vermont Emergency Management and the Hazardous Materials Response Team were notified and responded to assist with additional containment measures.
Green Mountain Power replaced the damaged utility pole, and Sabil & Sons safely removed the vehicle from the riverbank. The road was reopened to traffic at 7:20 PM.
Elm Street was temporarily restricted and later closed during vehicle recovery operations. Containment booms will remain in place until an environmental cleanup contractor completes the final cleanup of the affected area.

Prescribed Burn Notice – Pomfret/Woodstock Line (Route 12)

The Forest Service will be conducting a prescribed burn in the area of the Appalachian Trail trailhead on Route 12 along the Pomfret/Woodstock town line. This work is tentatively scheduled to begin tomorrow, April 9, and may continue for several days, potentially extending into next week.

Important Information:

Portions of the area may be closed to the public for several days to ensure safety.
Please watch for posted warning signs along nearby roadways before and during burn operations.
Smoke may be visible in the surrounding area during the burns.
All activities are weather-dependent and may be postponed or canceled if conditions are not suitable.

We appreciate your understanding as these prescribed burns help reduce wildfire risk and maintain forest health.

This morning, Woodstock Fire/Ems responded to a tractor-trailer rollover incident on Route 4 in West Woodstock. The truck was transporting primarily food products. There were no reported injuries . A minor fluid spill from the tractor.
