It is with great sadness that the Bungay Fire Brigade has learned of the passing of Linda Surozenski, beloved wife of retired Chief Joe Surozenski.

Linda was a part of the Bungay family for many years through Joe’s dedicated service to our department and community. She was always kind, caring, and supportive, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Please keep Chief Surozenski and the entire Surozenski family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at the Bungay Fire Brigade! ❤️

Today we recognize and celebrate all the amazing mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, wives, and mother figures who are responders or support our members and our community every single day. Whether you are holding things together at home while loved ones answer emergency calls, volunteering your time, or simply being the strength behind the scenes, your love and sacrifice never go unnoticed.

We would also like to give a special thank you to the mothers serving in the, military, police, fire service, emergency medical services, dispatch, and our mutual aid partners. Your dedication to both your families and your communities is truly inspiring.

From our Bungay family to yours, we wish you a safe, happy, and relaxing Mother’s Day! 🌸🚒

Bungay Fire Brigade would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s Spring BBQ such a huge success!

We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support — we sold out quickly this year and, thanks to your generosity, were also able to donate approximately 50 dinners to well-deserving veterans. 🇺🇸

It truly means a lot to our members and to the community we proudly serve.

Thank you again to everyone who came out, supported us, and helped make a difference. We look forward to seeing you all again this fall!

This Saturday, Bungay Fire Brigade participated in a live fire training alongside our mutual aid partners from Pomfret Fire Department and Eastford Independent Fire Company.

This was a great opportunity for our members to put their skills to the test in a realistic environment. As Instructor and Deputy Chief Moris said best, there are three fundamental skills every firefighter should be able to perform: forcing doors, stretching hose lines, and searching for victims.

During this training, all departments mixed crews and worked together, focusing on these core “back to basics” skills under the instruction of Back to Basics Training. Training this way strengthens teamwork, communication, and efficiency on the fireground.

Thank you to Chief Sheldon of Pomfret Fire Department for the invitation. Bungay Fire Brigade truly appreciates the opportunity to train with our mutual aid partners so that when the pagers go off, we are ready to answer the call—together.

🌿🕷️ Tick Safety Reminder from Bungay Fire Brigade 🚒

As more people head outdoors to hike, work, and enjoy the warmer weather, we want to remind everyone that ticks are active right now and can pose serious health risks.

Before heading outside:
✅ Wear light-colored clothing to spot ticks easier
✅ Use insect repellent (look for products with DEET or permethrin)
✅ Wear long sleeves and tuck pants into socks when possible
✅ Stick to the center of trails and avoid tall grass/brush

After you come back inside:
🔍 Do a full body check (don’t forget behind knees, ears, and along the hairline)
👕 Change clothes and wash them as soon as possible
🚿 Shower soon after being outdoors

🦠 Ticks can carry illnesses like Lyme disease, so early detection is important.

If you find a tick, remove it promptly with tweezers and monitor for any symptoms.

Stay safe and enjoy the outdoors responsibly!

🚨 Bungay Fire Brigade – Fire Safety Alert 🚨

With current high to very high fire danger conditions, we want to remind everyone how quickly a small ignition source can turn into a major wildfire.

Yesterday, Bungay Fire Brigade, along with auto aid from Muddy Brook Fire Department and Woodstock Volunteer Fire Departments, were dispatched to a reported woods fire. While units were responding, a passerby noticed the fire and alerted a nearby homeowner. The homeowner acted quickly, using a fire extinguisher to knock down the flames.

Bungay Fire Brigade arrived on scene, overhauled the area, and ensured the fire was completely extinguished. Fortunately, the quick actions of those involved prevented what could have been a rapidly spreading wildfire.

🔥 If this fire had not been stopped when it was, it had the potential to spread extremely fast through thousands of acres of dense wooded area under ideal burn conditions.

⚠️ Important Reminders:

Do NOT discard smoking materials from your vehicle

Ensure ci******es are fully extinguished before disposal

Be mindful of anything that could create sparks (chains, dragging parts, equipment, etc.)

Check your vehicle to make sure it is not producing sparks

It only takes one careless moment to start a wildfire. Please use extreme caution and help us keep our community safe.

Stay safe,
Bungay Fire Brigade 🚒

🚨🔥 FIRE DANGER ALERT – VERY HIGH 🔥🚨

The current fire danger across Connecticut is VERY HIGH.

Dry conditions and weather factors are creating an increased risk for fast-spreading brush and forest fires. Even a small spark can quickly turn into a serious incident.

⚠️ Please take precautions:
• Avoid any unnecessary outdoor burning
• Follow all local open burning regulations
• Properly dispose of smoking materials
• Never leave fires unattended
• Fully extinguish all charcoal, ashes, and campfires

As Smokey Bear reminds us: Only YOU can prevent wildfires.

🚒 The Bungay Fire Brigade is asking all residents to stay vigilant and help keep our community safe.

If you see smoke or fire, call 911 immediately.

Stay safe,
Bungay Fire Brigade
