A handful of our members made the trip to Cary this weekend to join in the return of the Cary Firefighters Association Water Fights, and they had an absolute blast!

With 17 teams taking part, there was plenty of competition, plenty of water, and even more laughs throughout the afternoon. Our crews may not have brought home a trophy this time around, but they had a great time competing and being part of the fun.

A big thank you to the Cary Firefighters Association for bringing back such a great tradition and having us out. We’ll be back for another shot at the trophy next year!

We are proud to congratulate Allison, David, Joe, and Andrew on successfully completing our week-long Engineer Training Program and passing their final practical evaluations!

After completing the state-certified Fire Apparatus Engineer (FAE) program, they took the next step with additional department-specific training focused on operating WFRD apparatus.

Throughout the week, they worked alongside the WFRD Training Division and experienced engineers and officers, gaining valuable hands-on experience and knowledge from those who have spent years behind the pump panel.

We’re proud of these members and grateful to those who continue to share their experience in preparing the next generation of WFRD engineers.

We recently had the opportunity to welcome more than 20 of our retired members back to Station 1 for our first Retiree Luncheon.

The gathering brought together retired and current members for good conversation, plenty of stories and a chance to look through historical photos and reminisce about their years serving Woodstock and the surrounding community.

Our retirees helped shape the agency we are today, and it was great having so many familiar faces back around the station. We appreciate everyone who joined us and look forward to making gatherings like this a tradition.

Knowing CPR can make all the difference when seconds count.

Our next CPR / AED / First Aid class is coming up on October 3. This in-person course covers CPR and AED use, basic first aid, and how to assist someone who is choking, with instruction for adults, children, and infants.

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an American Heart Association completion card. Seats are limited, so early registration is encouraged.

This past Friday, Woodstock firefighters responded to an overnight house fire in the 600 block of Clay Street, where crews arrived to find smoke and fire showing from a two-story home.

Firefighters encountered heavy fire on the first floor and, through their quick actions, brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes while containing the majority of the fire damage to a single room. Crews remained on scene for several hours completing overhaul and investigations.

No one was home at the time, no pets were involved, and no injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The home sustained smoke and water damage throughout and is considered uninhabitable until repairs can be made. One resident was displaced but did not require assistance with temporary housing.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.

A Heat Advisory remains in effect across northern Illinois, with heat index values expected to climb above 110° in many areas this afternoon.

If you have to be outdoors, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, drink plenty of water, and check on neighbors, older adults, and anyone without access to a cool place to stay. Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.

Around noon today, the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded after a construction crew struck a natural gas line along Route 47 near McHenry Avenue.

Firefighters remained on scene for several hours while utility crews safely secured the damaged line. During the incident, crews also investigated several reports of the smell of natural gas in the surrounding area and confirmed there were no additional hazards.

The roadway reopened at approximately 6:30 p.m. We appreciate everyone’s patience while Nicor Gas and utility crews worked to safely resolve the incident.
