The WRP turns 30 this year and we invite you to help us celebrate! We’re hosting a Restore & Explore event series to highlight WRP restoration project sites along the White River that also provide public access.

Saturday, June 20: Hiking Outing to Carla’s Meadow in Bethel – Join us for a short hike to Carla’s Meadow, a 10-acre property purchased to protect and restore an active floodplain immediately upstream of Bethel village. We’ll meet at the Bethel soccer fields, then walk a path along the Third Branch about 0.3 miles to tour Carla’s Meadow. We’ll walk back to enjoy refreshments and wrap-up by 4pm. No space limits.

Appreciation post for our local road crews!

Vermont roads take a beating year round from winter weather, mud season and heavy rains, and municipal highway departments keep us connected through it all!

State programs provide technical assistance, funding and data collection systems that help identify and address culverts and roads that need drainage improvements to prevent erosion and washouts.

It was great to see road crew members and state program members last week at the Local Road Roundtable last week in Bethel.

Summer is construction season in Vermont, please keep road crews safe by driving safely and carefully!

A new round of funding and support will soon be available to help a third cohort of small Vermont towns breathe new life into the historic buildings and shared spaces at the heart of their communities!

Join The Preservation Trust of Vermont, The Vermont Community Foundation and Vermont Council on Rural Development for an informational session on June 17th at noon (applications will open on the same day).

Community groups with a vision for their village that could be bolstered by this program are encouraged to attend.

Vermont Council on Rural Development, The Preservation Trust of Vermont and The Vermont Community Foundation are pleased to announce the third and final round of Village Trust Initiative (VTI) applications will open June 17th!

Twelve communities across the state are currently in the program and we can’t wait to hear the hopes and plans for village revitalization from more communities with this next round.

Register for an informational session to learn more about VTI, hear about the application process, and ask questions. Applications will close on September 8th.

Announcing the launch of the Municipal Energy Revolving Fund (MERF), a revolving loan fund providing 0% interest financing to projects of $100,000 - $250,000 that increase energy efficiency, reduce fossil fuel usage, and/or support renewable energy integration in municipally-owned buildings.

All municipalities are eligible to apply for MERF funding, but the first month of applications (5/28/26 - 6/30/26) will be reserved for municipalities that APPLIED FOR AND DID NOT RECEIVE a Municipal Energy Resilience Program (MERP) Implementation Grant.

Starting on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the applications will open to all municipalities, regardless of prior funding.

Staff from the Department of Buildings & General Services’ Energy Office team will be available to answer questions about this opportunity.
