The City of Woodstock is happy to announce that the Mayor and Council have formally approved a professional services agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. to develop the City’s new Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP). The approval, granted during the August 24, 2026, council meeting, marks a major milestone in shaping Woodstock’s transportation future over the next five years.
The CTP will serve as the City’s primary transportation planning document, guiding infrastructure investments, corridor improvements, multimodal enhancements, and future funding decisions. Development of the plan comes at a pivotal time, as Woodstock prepares to leverage newly available TSPLOST revenues approved by Cherokee County voters in 2025 and initiated in April 2026.
Public engagement will be central throughout the planning process. The City will incorporate feedback through stakeholder meetings, focus groups, surveys, community intercepts, and a public meeting, ensuring community priorities shape the plan’s recommendations.
The plan will also integrate non vehicle mobility options by identifying sidewalk gaps, prioritizing sidewalk infill, assessing bicycle and trail connectivity, and evaluating golf cart travel demand to support safer and more accessible multimodal routes. Additional components will address congestion along major corridors, identify targeted traffic relief projects, and evaluate signal timing at key intersections to maximize travel efficiency for residents.
Deputy City Manager Coty Thigpen emphasized that the CTP will provide a foundation for responsible, community aligned transportation investment over the next five years, ensuring Woodstock’s network supports safety, multimodal options, and the city’s fast growing population. “This Comprehensive Transportation Plan will serve as Woodstock’s guiding transportation blueprint for the next five years, helping us relieve traffic and congestion along our major corridors while thoughtfully planning for future growth,” said Thigpen. “Through a robust public input process and a strong emphasis on alternative transportation options such as biking, walking, trail connectivity, and even golf cart mobility, this plan positions us to deliver a safer, more efficient, and more accessible transportation network for everyone in our community."
