The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is officially now the Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA). NITA is taking the wheel to unite CTA, Metra, and Pace under one regional framework to improve safety, simplify fares, and boost service reliability across the board. A new era for Chicagoland transit. 🚇✨

Beginning today, NITA is officially your regional transit agency, coordinating affordable, reliable, safe transit across the CTA, Metra, and Pace.

For riders, the transition to NITA will not bring a change in who operates your bus or train, and all ADA Paratransit Certification, Ride Free and Reduced Fare programs, and the Access Program for riders experiencing low incomes will continue under NITA.

Heads up, drivers! LRS Crews will be out early tomorrow morning (8/28) running street sweepers across county roads. This essential maintenance keeps our roads safe, clears debris, and prevents localized flooding by keeping our storm drains clear.

What you need to know:

When: Early hours until approximately 6:00 AM.

Traffic Impact: You may experience minor delays. Sweepers travel at slow speeds to do their job effectively.

How you can help: Please slow down, avoid tailgating, and give the crews plenty of room to work safely in the dark.

Prepared, trained, and ready to help! Some of our MCDOT crew recently had the opportunity to roll up their sleeves for an intensive, hands-on CPR and AED certification session.

A massive thank you to the McHenry County Department of Health and the
McHenry County Medical Reserve Corps for taking the time to equip our team with these critical, life-saving skills. Strong communities are built on preparedness!

Thanks to the patience and cooperation of our driving public, the remainder of the Charles J. Miller Road Bridge deck was poured yesterday!

In total, 360 cubic yards of concrete was placed in forms spanning 290 feet from the end of the first pour to the eastern shore. While there is still plenty of work ahead, we are another huge step closer to fully reopening the bridge to traffic.

Please stay safe and stay alert as construction season moves ever onward!

TRAFFIC ALERT: It's official—the Charles J. Miller Road at River Road one-day traffic change takes place TOMORROW.

All eastbound traffic will be reduced to a single shared lane. This revised pattern allows our crews to safely pour the remainder of the bridge deck!

Thank you for your continued patience! While this isn't our final step, it's a huge leap forward in delivering a finished bridge ready for the public. Drive safely out there!

Heads up, McHenry County! A temporary traffic change is coming to the Charles J. Miller Bridge work zone.

To prepare for the next bridge pour, we will be restricting the eastbound left and right turn lanes for River Road to a single bidirectional lane. This traffic change will only be in place for one day (weather permitting), after which the normal construction traffic pattern will resume.

We will announce the exact date and share more information as we get closer to the pour.

If you were driving on Charles J. Miller Road today, you may have seen some exciting progress! Throughout the day, concrete trucks delivered over 440 cubic yards of concrete, which was poured to form 350 feet of the new bridge deck.

This marks the first of two major deck pours needed to get our new bridge open to drivers. As this new section cures, work will continue on the second half and remaining finishing details. We appreciate your continued patience during construction and can't wait to open the completed bridge to the community!

Every summer, the McHenry County Division of Transportation team is joined by a dedicated group of young men and women eager to learn from our talented staff. Every year, they work non-stop to better themselves and help make the County's road network a safer and more efficient transportation system.

As the season comes to an end, we want to thank our summer interns and wish them well in their next adventures in life, wherever they may go. Thank you for always putting our residents and the traveling public first!
