Tue Jun 9 2026

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for north and central Georgia.
DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight...

Locally heavy rainfall and training thunderstorms will pose a
risk for flash flooding today primarily over portions of North and
east central Georgia where localized rainfall rates may exceed 2
to 3 inches per hour.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday...

Daily thunderstorm chances will last through much of the upcoming
week. While widespread severe weather is not expected, storms
could include heavy rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning.

FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM EDT THIS MORNING THROUGH THIS EVENING...

* WHEN...From 8 AM EDT this morning through this evening.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Additional rounds of rainfall are expected to move across the
area through the day today. An anomalously moist environment over
Georgia will support high rain rates and increased chances for
flash flooding. Convective rainfall (showers and thunderstorms)
may repeatedly move over the same areas and have locally high
enough rainfall rates to result in flash flooding particularly in
urban areas and areas with poor drainage. Creeks and streams will
also be susceptible to flash flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.

At approximately 1:39PM on Wednesday, June 3rd, Woodstock Fire units were dispatched to a report of a commercial vehicle smoking on Heritage Walk. Callers reported heavy smoke coming from the truck, but no visible flames.

Woodstock Fire crews arrived quickly and secured the scene. They found a commercial shredder truck carrying a large load of shredded paper. Smoke was coming from the rear doors of the vehicle, and firefighters worked to investigate the source.

Crews deployed hose lines and fully extinguished the source of the burning material, eliminating the fire hazard.

A reminder to our community: large amounts of finely shredded or powdered materials such as paper, sawdust, and similar products can ignite much more easily than expected. Use caution when working around or transporting these materials.

Thank you to the firefighters on scene for their quick and professional response.
