Woodstock Fire Company 4 Zena sends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and coworkers of Melinda “Mindy” Brugger. She was the Safety Director of Systems Management for Westchester Medical Center and was highly skilled as a first responder and past EMS Captain. We honor her memory and thank her for her dedicated service.

Died July 9th, 2026

The TV show Emergency inspired the careers of many first responders, myself included. Randy and his co-star Kevin Tighe sat in on actual Los Angeles County paramedic classes and shadowed firefighters, learning how to start IV's and read EKGs.

Randy remained a longtime advocate for EMS and promoted the health and safety of first responders. In an interview with PBS, Mantooth said, "I owe an incredible debt to firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics, so that's a debt that no one can really pay back, but you can try. That's why it's so important for me to do what I do."

It’s official: The American Red Cross has declared an emergency blood shortage after the national blood supply fell nearly 25% in June. Blood donations have dropped significantly in recent weeks, while hospital demand continues to exceed expectations. This shortage is especially concerning during the busy summer trauma season when patients rely on lifesaving blood products every day. Types O positive, B negative, and AB plasma donors are particularly needed at this time.
