Update 9/2/26 5:45 pm: Non-emergency police phone lines are back in service. Non-emergency calls for local police can be placed on the published non- emergency phone numbers.

Salem County 911 Center is experiencing issues with the non-emergency police phone lines. At this time any emergency calls for police in Salem County should be directed to 911.

It's National Preparedness Month!

Each September, is designated as National Preparedness Month. Since 2004, the campaign has taken the month to encourage Americans to prepare for emergencies. The month is a great time to take small steps to make a big difference in being prepared.

This year’s theme is “Americans Stand Ready.”

The theme reflects the spirit of unity, resilience and resourcefulness that make our country strong. It’s a reminder that each of us can make a difference by taking proactive steps before a disaster strikes, and encouraging loved ones to do the same, Americans can contribute to the safety and security of the entire nation.

Preparedness is everyone’s responsibility, and disasters and emergencies can happen at any time, anywhere, and sometimes without warning.

Please help us help you by preparing for emergencies before they happen!

Preparedness truly is a two-way street.

Emergency managers work diligently to help people understand their risks, make plans, and know what to do when something happens. Then, the public plays an equally important role by staying informed, taking action, and helping others around them also prepare.

The strongest preparedness efforts happen when those two sides are connected. Emergency managers learn from the communities they serve, which in turn helps community members better understand how to prepare for the risks they face.

The County will be hosting a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony this year on September 11th at 1800 hours. The ceremony will begin at 1800 hours at the Park of Remembrance located at the entrance to the Emergency Services, 135 Cemetery Road, Woodstown, NJ 08098. Everyone is invited to attend, see attached flyer for additional details.

When people think about disasters, they often think about the response, but that’s not where it starts. Emergency management starts long before an emergency happens and continues long after it ends. Emergency managers identify risks, build partnerships, develop plans, coordinate training, and help communities and organizations recover and rebuild. National Emergency Management Awareness Month is an opportunity to recognize the work that often happens behind the scenes and the professionals who make it possible.

As we continue to celebrate National Emergency Management Awareness Month, please take time to make or review your family emergency plans.

There is no off-season for emergency management.

When one season ends, another begins. As hazards change throughout the year, so do the priorities. Plans are reviewed, exercises are conducted, partnerships are strengthened, and lessons learned are put into practice. The work continues because preparedness isn't something that starts when an emergency is approaching. It's built over time.

That's why emergency management is a year-round profession.
