🚨 ESCAPED INMATE ALERT 🚨

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for an escaped inmate who walked away from a county inmate trash detail earlier today in the Jeanette Road/Springfield area of Adams County.

The escaped inmate has been identified as Houston Tyler Dunson, 46, of Natchez.

Dunson was assigned to a supervised roadside litter detail when he fled from custody. Multiple deputies and law enforcement officers are currently searching the area.

At this time, there is no information indicating that Dunson is armed. However, he should not be approached under any circumstances.

Residents in the Jeanette Road and Springfield communities are urged to:

Call 911 (tel:911) immediately if you see Houston Tyler Dunson.
Do not attempt to confront or apprehend him.
Check any home or business security cameras for suspicious activity.
Lock your homes, vehicles, and outbuildings until the inmate has been safely taken back into custody.
Report any suspicious persons or activity to law enforcement immediately.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.

⚠️ FLASH FLOOD THREAT TODAY ⚠️

Most of Mississippi is under an Elevated (Level 2) flash flood threat through this afternoon as heavy rainfall moves across the state.

🌧️ 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible, may fall in a short period of time over already saturated soils.

Potential impacts include:
🚧 Flooded roads
🏠 Minor flooding of structures
🌊 Flash flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas

If you encounter a flooded roadway, remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown. Just a few inches of moving water can sweep away a vehicle.

Collaboration between citizens and law enforcement agencies consistently produces rewarding outcomes. On May 14, 2026, The Amite County Sheriff's Office was conducting an investigation in Centreville, MS, when they obtained a lead that led them to the stolen generator from the Wilkinson County Health Center in Woodville, MS, over the weekend. While the property has been recovered, the investigation is ongoing, with the aim of holding the individual(s) responsible accountable. Chief Rutledge would like to express gratitude to the Amite County Sheriff’s Office and all the citizens who shared the information and remained vigilant.
