Update on the Dams
July 2026

Camelot Dam: Lakey Construction has finished pouring the concrete on the outfall ditch and spillway from the roadway to the ditch. The road section needs to be poured as well as the last part of the spillway box. All that remains to be done is the concrete road section, asphalt, guard rails, grading, hydroseeding, striping and reflectors on the guard rails. It has been a long time coming but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Ivanhoe Dam: Significant progress has been made. SETEX is setting the forms in preparation for the concrete pours. Rip Rap is being laid down in the overflow channel. The Hydro gate, (valve), has a long lead time much like what we experienced on Camelot Dam. The latest ETA for the valve is late August.

Tristan Dam: This project is going at an amazing pace. SBS has poured most of the bottom box culverts and will be pouring the last three bottoms and walls this week. SBS continues to appear to be well ahead of schedule and should be completed before the end of October. As of today, they are already talking with asphalt paving companies.

Tolar Rd: Our Pct1 commissioner, Joe Blacksher, secured a $2M grant to rebuild and pave Tolar Rd. from the back entrance all the way to Hillister. Along with that the one-land bridge will be rebuilt as a two-lane cement bridge which will be built to TXDOT specs.
Additionally, Joe and I have had meetings with TXDOT regarding the intersection of Tolar Rd in Hillister. I do not have any of the details but my understanding is that TXDOT and Tyler County are working on a solution for a safer and more traditional intersection.
That is all for now.

CAMELOT DAM UPDATE

June 4, 2026

Greetings,

Lakey Construction is waiting on delivery of the epoxy needed to install the waterstop at the base of the walls. The epoxy was supposed to arrive Friday, May 29th, but has not arrived as of June 3rd. Concrete sub is sitting on go once the epoxy arrives.

A change order for the change from asphalt to concrete in the emergency spillway have been sent to Lakey for signature. The city will be notified once LJA receives the signed acknowledgement.

As far as end date, everything is dependent on finishing the intake structure. Procurement and delivery of the epoxy for the waterstop is the last item holding up work. Given all this, LJA has put July 15th as the new completion date on the change order. Lakey did not balk at that date and we remain hopeful that that date holds true.

Kind regards,

January 27, 2026

Greetings,

Beginning around noon tomorrow, Galahad Dam will. be shut down for preventative maintenance. Epoxy Designs will be on site cutting holes and filling with flowable grout.
The job will run from 10-12 days, so be prepared to take alternate routes out of the city.

It is imperative that we do this work on Galahad Dam before construction begins on Lakewood from Tristen Dam through the S curve on to the tree at Chanticleer.

Regarding the upcoming construction mentioned above, we will have our first of two public bid requests in the Booster this Thursday and the second one next Thursday. The contractors will have 3 or 4 weeks to prepare their bids. The bids will be opened and LJA Engineering will evaluate them for completeness, have legal review the contracts, and make recommendations on which construction company should be awarded the work.

Do not be surprised if this job takes 8-10 months from start to finish and will be a disruption with Lakewood closed between Tristen Dam and Chanticleer until the work is complete.

I trust you will find this informative and plan accordingly.

January 23, 2026

Greetings,

We are expecting a lengthy hard freeze beginning Saturday evening and lasting through mid-day Tuesday. The city will be closed Monday and Tuesday.

The City of Ivanhoe will be conducting sanding operations with priority on the dams and bridges, but with these icy conditions, there could be unexpected closures of the dams and or roads. There will be every effort to sand the steep hill coming up to the Camelot four-way stop. That hill will present a challenge even with sanding, so it is strongly advised to use alternate routes into and out of the city.

Stay home and off the roads if you can as icy conditions on the roadways will create extremely dangerous conditions, so do not get out if you can keep from it.

Best regards,
