Happy World Oceans Day! Without the awesome oceans of the past depositing silt, sediment, and debris that would eventually become the limestone our cave formed in, we likely wouldn’t be the incredible State Park we are today, and who knows what caves could form in the far future from the limestone created by modern oceans!

Celebrate World Environment Day by exploring the rich environments of Cathedral Caverns State Park!

From the beautiful mixed hardwood forest and karst landscapes that bank and cascade around the hiking trails to the awe-filled cavern below ground, there is so much to see!

It only happens once in a blue moon, but blue moons occur when there are two full moons in one month! Since the first full moon was on May 1, today (May 31) is considered a blue moon.

The next monthly blue moon won’t happen until December 31, 2028.

This past month participants in our Cave Art: The Art of Fire program had a grand time drawing with charcoal, creating burned paper edges, and even discovering how to make invisible lemon juice ink appear with a candle's flame!

Cathedral Caverns State Park comes alive at night as bats and moths take to the warm evening air of late spring with summer so close you can taste it on the breeze! For our campers such night sky dances can be admired through the early dusk hours, but even our daytime visitors might glance one of these nocturnal beauties resting camouflaged where you least expect it. This impressive moth is a tulip tree silk moth, was spotted by Sommer, a member of our awesome staff! Tulip tree silk moths rely on the leaves of the tulip poplar tree, eating all they can as caterpillars because once they finish their metamorphosis and turn into moths, they will no longer be able to eat at all!
