The accident that occurred in Grimes yesterday which ended in a 14 yo teenager going to the hospital with injuries is a stark reminder what can happen even on the streets of our small town. WPD Officers have already had to engage in conversations with children riding these electric scooters about the dangers of them blowing through intersections. Parents please have these conversations at home and drivers in town please be watchful of our little ones. We want everyone to remain safe!

WPD would like to remind citizens that this weekend is the last weekend that open burning is allowed for yard waste only. Open burning will be allowed on Saturday and Sunday only. All the details can be found on the City’s page.

Also the city wide clean up will be taking place Saturday morning and once again there will be volunteers picking up curbside items that have been pre-arranged with the city. Please be watching for these crews and give them plenty of space when passing them on city streets and go slow!!

And lastly we want to remind everyone of the new Hands Free law in Iowa. Please put your cellphones down and drive safe…
