This evening members of our Citizens Police Academy had the opportunity to see our Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Team (Drone Team) and Rope Rescue Team in action! Members of both these teams were able to demonstrate how this emerging technology has been so vital to our organization in locating lost or missing persons in the past year. The Rope Rescue Team also illustrated just how tricky rescues can be with the topography of our lovely city. These two Teams work side-by-side, with one assisting in the location of victims, and the other with the rescue of them!

As posted yesterday, statewide emergency systems will be tested today across Texas. Us and surrounding agencies will be partaking in these tests.

You may hear the activation of the county and our outdoor emergency warning systems at 10:30am.

Weather permitting, we will be partaking in the statewide public warning drill tomorrow at 10am! If you hear sirens at 10am, please know this is only a test!

Today is for jokes. Tomorrow is for testing.

Waco / McLennan County will be participating in the Statewide Public Warning System Drill on Thursday, April 2. Residents may receive test messages and hear outdoor warning sirens as part of the exercise. This is only a test.

Just a reminder as we head into Spring!

The rain was a much needed blessing this past week, but with that comes new life to our lawns! Our VCO Winget wanted to remind our community to please ensure our grass is tended to and within our city ordinances as she will be out and about next week beginning her Spring city ordinance duties.

Great post from our family over at the Lorena Fire Department. Please take heed of this warning as a small flame can get out of control very easily with the winds we will be seeing tomorrow.

🚩 RED FLAG WARNING – SUNDAY (12 PM – 9 PM) 🚩

Our area is under a Red Flag Warning tomorrow from 12 PM to 9 PM due to critical fire weather conditions across Central Texas.

🔥 Conditions expected today:
• Humidity: 18–25%
• Winds: 25–35 MPH
• Wind Gusts: 40–50+ MPH
• Very dry vegetation

These conditions create an environment where fires can start easily and spread extremely fast. Even a small spark from equipment, vehicles, or outdoor activities could quickly turn into a dangerous wildfire.

⚠️ Please help prevent fires today by:
• Not burning outdoors
• Not parking vehicles in tall grass
• Securing trailer chains to prevent sparks
• Avoiding activities that create sparks (welding, grinding, etc.)
• Properly disposing of ci******es

🚒 Our firefighters will be monitoring conditions closely and are ready to respond if needed, but prevention is the best protection.

If you see smoke or fire, report it immediately by calling 911.
