One more from today.

Today firefighter Cayden Slykhuis had his fancy sunglasses on but got us some first hand footage from a grass fire in the James River hills. This is as good a view of us working as you will ever get. Also a firsthand view of the Hen Blade Brush Nozzle in action. Notice it’s a great flat and wide pattern for the close work and a loooonnngggg reach on straight stream.

Yesterday Anheuser Busch was at the fire station to drop off a pallet of drinking water. Every year they shut down operations and go to drinking water to distribute to local agencies. We were chosen as a recipient this year. We will be sharing the wealth with our neighboring departments as well. Thanks to Anheuser Busch and the National Volunteer Fire Council for this excellent program!

On today’s episode of it’s hot outside we responded to a single bale fire (it’s never just one bale……). Temps in the mid 90s. Fire was contained to one bale. The bale however was a total loss and it seemed to be the last straw for it……stay cool everyone!!!

Three years ago the fireworks crew ducked inside the trailer to escape the short-lived torrential downpour. That year we were prepared for the possibility of rain.

Last year we scrambled. A small blip on the radar that appeared as if it was going to miss us, stopped right on top of Lake Prior and let loose. I was unable to capture this moment as we scrambled to get things covered up....

This year was one of the first years everything went almost perfect.

Hoping all of those who visited our community had an exceptional 4th of July. Happy 250th America..... See ya again next year. -DK-

If you would like to donate to the fireworks fund here is the venmo. We can’t keep the quality of the show up without your support! Last nights show was all new to us from some changes we had to make but we feel it still held up to the standard we have set! Especially the finale!!! 710 shells in 30 seconds was fun and new for us! Over 1000 if you count the teaser before the finale! Best fireworks in the state are on Lake Prior!

First look Woonsocket at YOUR new truck. Doors open so you can see the equipment and organization. Such an asset to this community. Take note of everything in there and the training required to know what every tool
Is for. Happy 4th of July!!!

07/03/2026

I would like to post this today so everyone can read it before the busy weekend. At approximately 6 pm July 4th we will close the road east of the lake from corner by campground to DL Service. No one is allowed through including foot traffic!!!!! This is as much for your safety as it is ours. Once the fire works are out we have multiple wires ran to every piece and we can not have people stepping on wires and risking disconnecting or a misfire. We feel everyone knows this but it is always an issue while we are setting up. Last year we had several including one individual smoking a cigarette while trying to walk through who became irritated when we sternly reminded him to go around. Please avoid the area and let us set up a safe and beautiful fireworks show for everyone!

NEW TRUCK ALERT!!! Today we picked up our new to us Engine 1 from Platte Fire Department. A few months back our current Engine 1 began having issues. After researching costs to repair we decided it was not cost effective to repair the pump in our current truck. Our friends in Platte were listing this truck and it checked all of the boxes we wanted. 4 door cab with SCBA seats, 1000 gallons of water, and most of all a recent brand new pump!!!! We will be semi retiring our old pumper for now! It has served us well over the years and we look forward to learning the new capabilities we have gained!!!
